Does being overproduced and fake really turn you off.

No but really I used to be the same but underneath the colour and plastic nature of the genre, everyone is so talented. They have training camps where these stars learn proper singing/dancing/acting for years before they release their first song. So to me, all of that can be excused because there is legitimate talent there. Not to go on a rant about k-pop tho.

That is what separates the two for me.

I'm not even saying this to 'defend' k-pop, but just general 1D discussion: what do you mean there is no pop-factory? Being formed on a hit TV Show, catering music that not all of them like to please the fangirls, all the endorsements and merchandise you were dragging 1D for because they were 'passionate'/'fake' when promoting (like the perfume).

1D are incredibly manufactured. I don't think it's a bad thing, though. Some people want superstardom, and they got it.

I don't agree.

There is a difference between wanting fame and going through boot camp including a metric ton of plastic surgery to get there.

I'm not going to defend the plastic surgery, but if that's what this is really about.
But pop music is a business. Boy bands in particular require extra marketing to milk the fangirls of every coin they have. But really, X-Factor puts them through a bootcamp stage etc on national television for entertainment (where they get training on vocal technique etc).

I love the guys but I'm not going to pretend they're such genuine ~artists who rose to fame organically etc.
