When I think of pure, I think of peaceful. I picked this songs because when I listen to them I feel free and calm. It's like I teleport into a new relaxing world

The Simple & Pure Expression of Love & Heartbreak (bold)
My idea of a pure, organic, natural song is a song that simply uses actual instruments to create a song and no (obvious) virtual instruments or voice editing software. Trust me, how annoying is it to listen to a ballad that has an acoustic guitar or piano as the instrument and you here autotuned vocals on it (such as Heart In My Hand by Austin Mahone or Who Are You by Fifth Harmony)? At the same time, my criteria also eliminates echo-like effects on vocals or fade-in fade-out stuff (such as the intro to I Don't Wanna Dance by Hey Monday or the second chorus of My Heart by Paramore). So with that being said, when I was listening to songs in my iTunes library to see what songs I could use for the trinity this round, most of the songs that fell in my criteria had to do with love and heartbreak, so the mini-theme that ties all three songs together is that they all have to do with love and heartbreak.
1. Cassidy Ford - You've Got This Hold On Me
A very simple, acoustic pop song is all this song needed to be a cute romantic song. It's sweet and bubbly without being overproduced. Otherwise, the song speaks for itself.
2. Kerli - Love Me or Leave Me
For a song that is produced by an EDM producer, this song is very pure, natural and organic. This song about possibly leaving a relationship only relies on Kerli's vocals, a piano and some strings to make an impact.
3. Paramore - All I Wanted
Closing out this trinity is the heaviest song of the set, All I Wanted by Paramore. All the needed was powerful electric guitars and drums to make this song powerful, but still pure and natural. The ending with just the guitar is plain epic!
Solopop
Nothing Compares 2 U| Sinéad O'Connor
Originally Prince wrote it for himself but Sinéad O'Connor is the one everyone knows and it's for a good reason it's incredible. I mean the opening with very little instruments and then her voice bellows through and knocks everyone out with its simple beauty and grace.
Brother | Matt Corby
This artist is one I thought of quit quickly and the majority of his songs I say would apply. A very simple beat with beautiful lyrics and a great voice. Love, love love this song.
Fall at Your Feet | Crowded House
It's hard not to cry when you listen to this song. Just incredibly gorgeous and simple. So hard to talk about a song when all you need to do is listen and just be taken away.

Sugar Town By Zooey Deschanel
I chose this cover of Nancy Sinatra's hit 1966 single because it perfectly fitted the theme of this round. This song is pure because it invokes an incredible array of emotions and is elevated purely by Zoeey's ethereal voice. Most importantly, this song's continuing presence today (it was featured in the movie (500) Days of Summer as well as the most recent episode of the hit HBO series 'Girls') clearly show that it is a song enjoyed by all generations.
Home By Phillip Phillips
No song in recent years has brought together so many people like Phillip Phillip's song Home has. It has brought together people of different backgrounds and generations numerous times- most notably during the televised coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics as well as in photo montages honouring first responders to the Boston Marathon Bombings during various football games. This song is pure not only because of Phillip Phillip's vocals but also because of its universal uplifting messages of acceptance and hope.
Dream a Little Dream By Robbie Williams ft. Lily Allen
I felt compelled to include this song because it really managed to spotlight Robbie Williams' and Lily Allen's vocals and also because its tune and lyrics are so uplifting. This song is pure because it manages to convey love in an almost childishly innocent manner.

For this round imma classify my song choices into three categories of "pure": lyrically, musically and vocally.
I Can't Take It
Tegan and Sara "i've got no where to go"
For the Lyrical category, I chose this song, 'cause this song only contains 12 unique words (11 if you don't count 'woah' as a word). So you could say this song is lyrically pure as it's free of any convoluted metaphors and stuff like that. Also, despite there only being so little words, I think the choice of words here are amazing. It really distills whatever emotion there is perfectly, and the fact they did that with so little words. Let's not forget the emotions the twins convey here, it's pure raw emotions.
From This Valley
The Civil Wars "oh the desert dreams of a river, that will run down to the sea"
For the Musical category, I chose this Grammy-winning song as this duo is best known for their stripped back folk music and their soulful vocals. This song only consists of an acoustic guitar and a fiddle, yet they can create such a joyful and melodious tune. Goes to show how pure music and organic instruments alone can create an array of emotions. The song talks about the love of Jesus. And isn't His love the purest of all?
Don't Swallow The Cap
The National "i'm not alone, i'll never be, into the bone, i'll never grieve"
The lead singer of The National is a baritone, so his voice is mostly very low and also his vocals are rather sparse on their songs too, and he doesn't really change much in tone, especially for this song. So for the Vocal category this band with such a pure and low voice is my choice. One interpretation of this song is that it's about pushing on and never giving up, basically pure determination, pure strength, pure hope.

▲ Round 4: Pure ▼ Love
Love is a strong emotion that has become a common theme music. Many songs nowadays deal with the topic in one way or another, whether it may be falling in love, being in love, or a relationship that has gone sour. All songs chosen display these heartfelt emotions in their purest forms.
John Mayer - "Who You Love (feat. Katy Perry)"
With a soft guitar riff and a relaxed beat, John and Katy serenade each other about the raw emotions of falling in love when you least expect it. The song is pure and raw, with all real instruments and little auto-tune. The duo harmonize softly with one another, creating a pure dynamic of love and simplicity.
Adele - "Someone Like You"
Adele's smash hit happens to be one of the most emotionally pure songs ever released. There's virtually no instrumentation, just a haunting piano background. Adele sings about a lover that left her, and with this emotion, she channels a rawness in her vocals that leave the listener feeling every word she sings. This is Adele at her purest, and also her best.
Ke$ha - "Goodbye"
Whenever Ke$ha is called talentless, this song will usually make an appearance. It's an unreleased song that Ke$ha recorded during her teenage years, and it's her most personal and pure song she's ever recorded. With the aid of an acoustic guitar, Ke$ha emotes in a way that she never has before. She's emotionally stripped down while singing about a deteriorating relationship, and she makes you almost feel as if you are in her position. Truly the most pure song a recent Pop girl has released.

I start my trinity with this unexpected song. I discovered this song a few weeks ago, after watching movie "Chasing Ice" I chose this song because it's very simple ,and it doesn't need a lot of complex additions to make it beautiful. it's just a very simple and touching song. + I never knew Scarlett was such a good singer.
ENYA ▼ FAIRYTALE
Second song to continue my trinity is "Fairytale" by Enya. I don't even know how to explain this choice. It's simplicty and beauty just makes me fall for it. This song touches my heart, it's sad, and kind of breathtaking. When I heard this, a while ago actually, I was stunend, it's just beautiful, and it just makes me feel better.
SARAH MCLACHLAN ▼ SWEET SURRENDER
Last song of my trinity is "Sweet Surrender" This beautiful piece of song was chosen, because it's very peaceful and Sarah's voice is just amazing. Sarah's voice is just so pure, and magical actually. Her voice can calm the beast that is within. That's what makes me like this song.

P!nk // Beam Me Up
This P!nk song is incredibly beautiful, just the meaning of the song and the instrumentation make it seem so simple, so pure, which is why I chose this song.
Christina Aguilera // Save Me From Myself
I chose this song because I think that this, vocally and instrumentally, Christina's purest song. She doesn't really try to go for those glory notes, but she ever so lightly lilts her voice into a falsetto that just works with this song.
The Cinematic Orchestra // To Build a Home
This song, in my opinion, is one of the purest, most beautiful songs ever. Everything in it feels so effortless from the instrumentation to the voice to the lyrics. It has a special place in my heart for its simplicity and meaning.
According to Pitchfork, The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, Billboard, and an abundance of other publications, 'Everything Is Embarrassing' is Sky Ferreira's single best track and her magnum opus. Sky Ferreira's raw and haunting vocals are well suited with a minimal and simplistic synthpop beat and somber lyrics. Everything about this brilliant track fits the label "pure."
MARIAH CAREY - LOOKING IN
In an age when Mariah Carey was synonymous with "the innocent girl next door," Mariah quietly nestled a true, raw piece of her heart at the end of her 1995 album Daydream. The song, titled Looking In, is Mariah's most personal and raw piece of work that she has ever released; a cry for help during a dark and depressive period in her life. "She smiles through a thousand tears, and harbors adolescent fears. She dreams of all that she can never be. She wades in insecurity," she almost weeps in this raw and personal piece of work. The song is so personal to Mariah that she has only performed it once in her life, and when she did, she couldn't help but shed a tear.
THE XX - ANGELS
Angels was the first single released off of The xx's sophomore album Coexist, and was a slight depature from the sound of their debut. The song is a hollow and gentle ballad with an almost ominous sound, which is a contrast from the intimate and loving lyrics about an intense feeling of private affection towards another. The song is subtle, smooth, and effortlessly beautiful; a prime example that a song does not have to be complex to captivate listeners.

Lisa Mitchell
Neopolitan Dreams
One of my favourite songs, and I feel like it really works with this theme. It’s got a very simple, natural feel to it that manages to transform into a big song without being complicated. Lisa’s vocals are beautiful to listen to and the video also compliments the theme nicely.
Tracy Chapman
Behind The Wall
What better way to define “stripped” than a song with absolutely no music at all? Short and tragic in lyrical content, it relies solely on her stunning voice. Admittedly it does not have lyrics that really scream "pure", but the strength and emotion conveyed in just voice makes this a classic without the need for any instrumental at all.
Jason Mraz
I’m Yours
I feel like this is the most self-explanatory one of the three. I’m still sad that this became such an overexposed song, because loads of people probably hear it and cringe and run for the off button of whatever it’s playing on. But for me, this cute little acoustic song is great and came to mind pretty much straight away.

This challenge seemed easy at first. Find a pure song, or two, or three, which could easily be done by taking three simpler songs with uncomplicated acoustic arrangements, and it's a day. But I've never been one to do things the easy way. That's why for this round I decided to find three songs that feel pure in a genre many consider to be the opposite: electronic. Considering electronic music "impure" because "it's not real" has been a widespread opinion among many people but this entry is here to prove it wrong. This entry is here to prove that electronic music and songs with electronic influences can be just as pure as a live piano ballad and as full of heart and emotion as one of those, too. So I hope you, the listener, the viewer, the interpreter, do enjoy.
#1
It's an even bigger risk that my first song is an upbeat remix of Florence & the Machine's single You Got the Love made by the xx. They keep the same pure feeling of the original song and then enhance and rearrange it with electronic effects and new vocal tracks. The whole thing feels fun yet introspective. As for the lyrical side of things, what could be more pure than love?
The second song of the trinity, Forgot I Was Here by Shlohmo, may not have words but the music itself speaks wonders. Ethereal, melodic breathy sounds and plucks dance throughout the song, sounding as real as any "real" instrument. The song is simple and clean, and the sound smooths over your ears in a way that can't be described as anything but pure.

#3
Active Child's calm, ambient Johnny Belinda closes off this trinity. The song is also simple and pure, yet a very different type of simple and pure than the previous two; for this piece, there's a great feeling of sadness and regret. The lyrics are beautiful yet the language is simplistic, taking this trinity to its final stop.

This is the first song I thought about when I heard that Pure was the theme for this round. This entire song exudes purity, and is about wanting to find freedom, or a place to escape.
A L U N A G E O R G E--O U T L I N E S
Outlines is almost a haunting song; Aluna's vocals are beautiful and almost at a whisper, and George's usually upbeat electronic production is toned down to match. The end result is a song about a breakup that is incredibly relaxing to listen to.
S T A R S---S L E E P--T O N I G H T
Sleep Tonight is hypnotic; a song about two lovers so intertwined that they feel as one, together in silence.
