The Ultimates Week Five: Back the Crazy, Fresh, Clean Love
I know last week got a lot of buzz for being extremely difficult, but this week - for me, for you - rivals it. There are at least five songs here that I unabashedly love; also there are songs like California Love playing. It will be interesting to see how the Mr. Hyde to The Beatles' Dr. Jekyll, The Rolling Stones do, as The Beatles pretty much ran the table last week.
Tupac, performing California Love
The Rolling Stones, performing Sympathy for the Devil
Aaliyah, performing I Care 4 U
New Order, performing Age of Consent
The Pretenders, performing Back on the Chain Gang
OutKast, performing So Fresh, So Clean
Ke$ha, performing Party at a Rich Dude's House
Joni Mitchell, performing A Case of You
The Judds, performing Grandpa (Tell Me Bout the Good Old Days)
Prince, performing
Good old Prince doesn't believe in YouTube, so a Spotify link will have to suffice. Listen to all ten songs, comment on them, and rank them - 10 is your favorite song, 1 is your least favorite. Enjoy!

There are only 9 songs, no?
I have two Sympathy For The Devil songs on my iTunes, but neither of them is by 2Pac.
Was it meant to be The Rolling Stones or Guns N Roses perhaps and some other song for 2Pac?

I wonder what Tupac's version of "Sympathy for the Devil" would sound like.

10 - Let's Go Crazy
This is like the perfect introduction to Purple Rain. It seems like an introduction of the amazing stuff yet to come on the album. What makes this a 10 and not a 9 or 8 is the outro where he yells "TAKE ME AWAY" Perfect.
9 - I Care 4 U
Sensuality incarnate. Glad the RIGHT song got picked for her.
8 - So Fresh, So Clean
Love the syncopated chorus, and for some reason Andre's "I Love who you are; I love who you ain't" line sticks out to me.
7 - Sympathy for the Devil
Never been a big Stones fan, but this song always struck my fancy.
6 - A Case of You
I was listening to this while walking my dog a few days ago. Amazing lyrics.
5 - Age of Consent
Now yall KNOW if Blue Monday had been the pick they would be 10'd multiple times.
4 - Back on the Chain Gang
This is good. Will check out more of their stuff.
3 - Party at a Rich Dude's House
Hm, yes. I do like this song and it is a perfect example of who Ke$ha is as an artist... but maybe she's just not as good of an artist compared to most of the artists playing in this game?
2 - California Love
I shouldn't have put this as one of my picks (though it was my 4th). I'm absolutely sick of it because they play it on Pop radio all the damn time.
1 - Grandpa
Boring.

"Dear Mama" should have played for Tupac.
I shouldn't have put "California Love" on my list. I knew it would get the most votes.

10. Prince - Let's Go Crazy
Stunning opening to Purple Rain. Oozing with "something epic is about to come" vibe.
9. Joni Mitchell - A Case of You
One of the best on the album. Great lyrics.
8. 2Pac - California Love
Bop bop bop
7. The Pretenders - Back on the Chain Gang
First listen. This was really good.
6. Outkast - So Fresh, So Clean
One of my faves from them
5. The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
Not a fan of Stones, but this is a highlight.
4. The Judds - Grandpa
Pretty good. First listen as well.
3. Aaliyah - I Care 4 U
This was always one of my least favourite from the red album. Bottom 2 actually. Sorry not sorry.
2. New Order - Age of Consent
Boring.
1. Ke$ha - Party at a Rich Dude's House
Haven't heard this before. Started out pretty well, but then the chorus ruined it all.

Stay JEALOUS that wherever you're from doesn't have such an iconic anthem.

This is SUCH an 80s week. Three of the best singles from the 1980s, and one song from 2010 that was deeply inspired by an iconic 80s band.

I'm a New Yorker; I can't relate to any songs about California unless they're by The Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, or Ms. Joni Mitchell herself.
