Why 'flop' GMAYL peak so high vs. other hit lead singles?
When Madonna dropped "Give Me All Your Luvin'" in 2012 it was not considered her best lead single by a long shot and the general consensus is that the song was a flop.
However it still managed to peak really well around the world, especially compared to many lead singles by Madonna's contemporaries, and this is keeping in mind the song's only promotional efforts were for the North American market only (American Idol video promo and Superbowl)
"Outside the U.S., Canada and Mexico, only a couple million people see the Super Bowl -- and probably a lot of them are expatriate Americans," said Simon Kuper, co-author of "Soccernomics."
Why did it peak so well yet is still considered a flop while other lead singles are considered hits yet have much less impressive chart positions? No shade, I'm just wondering if there is a double standard against Madonna.
I just want to figure out why people think this song and era were such a flop when in reality it actually it peaked very impressively around the world.
She had a lot of hype. She is the queen and still has a lot of followers and loyal fans. Her new single will sell well at the beginning too but if she doesn't do something less generic she may start to fade more.
She sold what 2 million albums WW? Peaked in the top 10, I think that's normal these days, it wasn't a flop, Beyonce hasn't had a top 10 y like 6 years and she's the most successful artist right now, so where's the flop in Madonna?
Madonna's floppiest singles reach at least No.1 somewhere
I mean, just look at Give it 2 Me, Celebration and even GGW.
At 50+, why are people always trying to hate her?
Superbowl. And please, enough with the "It's local" argument. You're going to tell me that no one from around the world watched the performance online afterward, or heard about it in the news?

The Superbowl is a complete non factor everywhere except the US/Canada though It doesn't get widely reported, it's the same as if she performed on any random local US show. No one cares about it outside of North America (non-Mexico) because no one cares about the sport. At all.

See, the whole "she had the Superbowl!" thing is just another one of those things where a lot of us Americans think our ideals are the world's ideals. Like, it's such a big thing for the US (I guess?).
You're right; it's a non-factor outside of North America.
