I feel like Pharrell is going to struggle to compete with Dark Horse. I mean it already has a music video out and the movie it came from is old. It will have great longevity like other soundtrack songs a la A Thousand Years. When was the last time a soundtrack song went #1? I love the song; it does deserve #1.
US or WW? Probably Rolling in The Deep, STIUTK, or Part Rock Anthem, which sold 6 million+ in one calendar year iirc.
I'm not saying it is gonna happen but really it could easily happen. The song will be huge for like another month or two. And will still be relevant well Into Spring

it gained four million on radio today though. It might be a contender sooner than later. But Definetly not till end of Feb or like you said sometime in March. And that's only if sales continue to stay put or even increase. Which looks likely at this point
I actually don't quite see Happy as being major competition for Dark Horse. I think it'll peak really high but I don't see it overthrowing DH cause it's not really one of those songs that has that extra spark. Sure its good on the first couple listens but to me, after seeing the beats commercial being played every 5 minutes, every single day, I'm tired of it already so I don't think it'll be that big of a threat but I could be wrong

I find it as a competition because of its multiformat appeal. It's played on an Blurred Lines-scale of radio formats and that's definitely not something achievable by most songs.
On the other hand, Jason usually peaks early on radio for his past few singles so I'm not worried just yet.
What's the most any single has sold in a calender year? Can Katy beat the record with DH?
