Stop making it seem like he's so groundbreaking because she's not singing about money and bitches as if he is the only one. Common, Talib Kweli, The Roots and many artists speak about socially conscious things yet no one blanks an eyelash. The reason he is getting all of this hype is because he is a white male talking about these things.

He's a good rapper and Ryan is an excellent producer, but there are better rap records around, they were the lucky ones who pleased the GP, they approach ''regular'' issues like homosexuality, partying, love, not just drugs, money or ego tripping.
Exactly. If it wasn't for songs like Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us, Macklemore would not be where he is right now (though even before all of his success he managed to build up a large fanbase).
If Macklemore wins on Sunday, he deserves it. Are there better choices? Aren't there always in everyone's opinion?
Also I think he speaks truth when we raps Same Love is literally better than any rap song that was released in 2013.

Why would you be sick at a rapper speaking truth I rather hear about truth than sex with bitches blowing money and weed drinking and seeing women shake their ass . I really think the main reason y people hate Mack is because he is white wining rap awards ..
His music is not deserving of a Grammy when Kendrick Lamar exists. Deal. If you don't appreciate hip hop you could just embrace other genres that talk about what you enjoy.

This is why people hate him because of statements like that.
All pop rappers get hate. As far as the Grammys go, you have Nas, who's at least top 3 of all time, and he doesn't have a single Grammy, but Macklemore might win best rap album? C'mon now. And his album isn't touching Kendrick's, fact.
i don't really care about macklemore, but there's something problematic about praising a white, straight guy for doing stuff that (queer) POCs have been doing for years
Kendrick had the better album. He can't help that he was a black man born in Compton who didn't see the appeal of shopping at the thrift shop or promoting Gay Marriage in his debut album.
