There's nothing to excuse. She stood on that stage and did something different. Everyone was expecting choreo and a sleuth of back up dancers or something like that and she came out and did chairography for 3/4 of the performance.
Granted it wasn't "exciting" but it was a decent enough performance. It's nice that she tried a different approach. All that said, she performed on par with the other girls' efforts. Her worst is equal to their best.
