I really hope not because Kendrick is far more deserving Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are pure gimmick and basically are pop stars that rap. They're not in it for the culture they want the money and chart dominance
Which is what a lot of ****ing rappers rap about so simmer
Your first line made me cringe. Yeezus is not mainstream pop. Macklemore has slim support on urban.
Its not mainstream pop (never said it was) but its hardly traditional rap either. If they dont think theres enough rapping on the heist, then certaintly there isnt enough rapping on yeezus. The category isnt 'best album supported by the urban community'. Its best rap album. The heist is a rap album. Its not a great rap album and i can think of like 5 or 6 albums more deserving this year that didnt even get nominated, but its a rap album.
I do think that it is hard deciding what is "rap" and what is not because let's be honest... There are so many layers to the term as well as "hip-hop" and "urban music".
I don't like the idea of them sweeping the rap categories, but at the end of the day... This is an awards show and a group of people decide who win.
Macklemore & Ryan are a mere footnote in rap's history and they don't take anything away from its rich history, but (of course) they are a much larger in pop culture.
It's a rap album yes but so are nicki's pink albums. The academy didn't bat an eye at her crossover appeal or success in the pop charts, she didn't win.
Still, the academy sucks ass and will most likely screw it up for EVERYONE .

The Grammy Rap committee have always been very close minded so this is nothing new. There have been so many artists that they've tried to push to the pop categories. Sometimes, they've been successful, but I'm glad they failed this time
Like I said in the other thread, this is silly because every year they nominate many rappers with huge Pop success like JayZ, Drake, Kanye (Gold Digger, Stronger etc...)
No HipHop album deserved a nomination more than The Heist.
Just the fact that it was an indie album that managed to have such an impact in pop culture makes it the frontrunner to win.
The fact that the their songs features brass instruments when no one else was doing that is another thing they have going on for them.
If TH was released via the usual distribution chains, it would've probably outsold Eminem and Drake.
Just because a Rap album is popular doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a nomination. And to tbh, the Grammys pretty much always give the win to the most popular HipHop artists.
