Sorry for multiple posts...but yes, Alicia Keys was signed to Columbia. Then asked to leave...and signed to J Records.
They actually tried to make her into a "pop princess" when she was on Columbia...a la Britney Spears. I know some folks that have her original debut record. Glad she left, because that NEVER would have worked.
