Patti Labelle Slams Today’s Singers: “All These Little Heifers Who Can’t Sing Are Called Divas!”
If ever there was to be a “Keep It Real Awards”, we’ll be first to vote for there to be several categories dedicated to and named for legendary songstress Patti Labelle.
Indeed, the very woman who claimed she wanted to “pimp-slap” Diana Ross and later slammed ‘American Idol’ judges for being “unqualified” has now landed herself back atop headlines for weighing in on this generation’s “talent”.
She may have not mentioned the likes of Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna, but it’s clear who these shots were directed to. Get into Patti slamming today’s alleged divas while praising her strong gay following below:

Q: For you, what does it mean to be a diva?
Patti:
“That word is used so loosely that I don’t even consider myself a diva. “Diva” is a word that I wouldn’t wanna call myself because it’s so loosely used. It’s not cute anymore.
…because all these little heifers who can’t sing are called divas! It doesn’t mean anything to me and probably to some of the other ladies who have been doing it for as long as I have: Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick. You know, I’m speaking for me – I don’t know if they like to be called divas – but I know I wouldn’t call them divas, because it’s not in good company.
People [today] who are doing it and doing it with about 40 people on stage with them to hide their pitifulness – that’s not a word, but you know what I mean.”
Interviewer: A lot of people who love R&B are particularly upset about the lack of vocalists in current R&B music, there are a lot of non-singers making millions. What’s your take on current R&B?
Patti:
The same! Oh my God, It’s a hot mess, a hot mess. There are some R&B singers who can really sing like Mariah, Beyonce ... I think that’s about it. Christina Aguilera -- I don’t know what she is, I mean, she’s not called an R&B singer, but to me she has R&B pipes. She can sing her face off!
