Her faux "no ****s given" attitude, the blatant use of illegal substances, the countless nude photoshoots, her raunchy videos & borderline smut-like lyrical content, all point to 'hypersexuality'. It's just apart of the "Rihanna plan". When the climate of the GP changes, as will her image.

I'm not certain that weed is illegal where Rih's from. Gaga also smokes weed and claims to have stopped doing coke. Damn near all of our pop faves run around on camera in skimpy attire. The OP could have worded this differently, but I understand the sentiment. It's like how is it that Britney managed to retain a veneer of innocence and virginity, considering all her midriff baring, "lingerie on the cover of Rolling Stone at 17" wearing, sparkly see through body suit gyrations, yet had Rih done the same when she debuted, she would have likely been stereotyped as dirty jezebel.
It's already been said, but a lot of the undue criticism boils down to a combo of racism/sexism and the fact that Rihanna has always had a credibility problem. So, her detractors naively assume that all she's selling is sex and controversy. Of course, the fact that she sold 5M+ albums and racked up a slew of #1's before "the incident," the fact that you can't see her on the radio, and she wins awards and accolades for her music/vocals refutes this, but I digress.
That said, I think Janet paved the way for Rih, in terms of being sex positive, and it's not like Rih's image is hurting her career.
