I don't want to speculate or intrude too much, but Gwen kind of intimated awhile back that she had a miscarriage. Adding that to the fact that she's in her mid-40s (and that Adrian's wife once had her pregnancy announced early by Perez, ugh, only to have a miscarriage shortly after ), she probably wanted to play it safe.

I'm pretty sure she announced it a few months ago. I've known about it.

Well yes, it's been obvious for months and months now, but she never officially said anything till just recently.
