I wanted to get opinions on something confusing when talking to boys because I've seen several people on twitter, Instagram and even real life say this.

Say you are talking to a boy in a "getting to know you to see where it goes" type of way. Are they yours or are they still allowed to "talk" to other boys? The thing I've heard from many people online & offline is something along the lines of "if we're talking, you're mine" or "if we're talking, I better be the only one you're talking to" etc etc

What do you think? Considering both of you are still single but trying to get to know each other for a physical/mental/emotional connection, are you two allowed to "talk" to other boys? Or is that boy technically yours for giving you exclusive treatment? Discuss.

Let me give some of you inexperienced gurls a lesson. Talking with someone literally means nothing. even if you have been intimate with the person for a while. Unless you both have the conversation that you are in a relationship and only dating each other, you cannot expect that the other person to not to talk to anyone else.

oh and if you are just "talking" to someone don't be surprised when they just stop calling or coming around as much. it probably means that they are dating or more interested in another person.

I used to be one of those people who thought that "talking" meant we were only seeing each other but from experience I know its not true

worse. I was talking to some guy who had a boyfriend ( I saw when his bf sent him a loving text) and I still thought I was the only one.

By talking you mean like online talking?

I'm actually kinda talking to this guy that follows me on tumblr right now and to me "talking" means nothing unless you have the conversation saying that you're dating. We haven't had that conversation but I know that he seems to be the "if we're talking then you're mine" type of guys but until it's official I do what I want

Well if I'm talking someone to see how it goes, I'd rather not flirt and talk to someone else. If I realize that I don't like him after like a week then no.

Lol, talking is literally nothing. At least to me. I'm talking to someone now and we haven't had the conversation about being in a relationship at all, because truth is, we aren't going to be in one. He's free to talk to other people just like I am. End of, tbh.

It's hard to judge how deep your level of "talking" is sometimes, and especially the difference between what it means for you and what it means for them. There are really no rules with it. Some people will only talk to one person at a time, and are turned off by people who see other people during that phase. Others "talk to" multiple people at a time.

I think that it's fine as long as you haven't had the relationship talk, as Reza said; or at least established that you're exclusive to each other.

Having active sexual relationships with multiple different people at a time is different, though, and just nasty.

Yeah if you don't explicitly talk about it lots of guys aren't gonna realize you're exclusive.

Communication is KEY

In all honesty, if you are just "talking" as in "getting to know" someone, that does not mean you two are exclusive. You have not started a romantic relationship, you did not commit to one other, you didn't promise each other to be exclusive in the first place.

It's not fair to expect anyone to reciprocate exclusivity in a relationship when no one has set any standards. That is why so many relationships fail 'cause they start off on unclear terms and expectations.

Communicate communicate communicate!

Yeah, I've done it myself, honestly. But in hindsight, I realize how wrong it is. You could easily catch a disease from somebody and not even realize it, and by the time you do, you could have spread it to someone else.

but its not always that easy. sometimes things move fast or you really feel like you're almost going to be exclusive and then BAM its over
