Applause's promo was crazy. VMA performance, GMA performance, a car commercial, a Just Dance (which is huge with teens) commercial. I especially heard the commercial almost everytime I watched TV as Christmas approached.

DWUW had The Voice, AMAs, SNL, Beats By Dre commercial, a Christina Aguilera remix

They were both heavily promoted.

DWUW's situation is just really unfortunate - had it debuted in September as the first single (possibly with a different singer than R. Kelly), I think it would've done very well. There was a lot that went down in Oct-Dec that really hindered Gaga's image, and DWUW got the impact of that.

Btw, DWUW is at 853k sales and as of tomorrow it's been out for 3 months.

5 months later, and 64pplause is still surprising everyone.

To me, Applause is a first or nothing single. And there were better options for first.

Am I the only one who loves Applause and doesn't think it did THAT terrible?

It's a good song, just not as a single. I knew people that didn't like it.
