I seriously thought this was going to be a smash hit for her, but even its power could not save the ARTPOP era. The fact that she still has not released a video for the song probably does not help, but the fact that the song never resurfaced into the top 10 on iTunes after its initial release even with massive promotional spots tells me that it was never going to be a hit regardless. Do you think the song deserved to flop (for Gaga's standards), or are you confused as to why it was not massive?
It's not a flop, but it certainly underperformed.
It didn't deserve to do either though... It's a really good song. It kinda gets old after a while, though, which might have been the problem.
Yeah, it's digital performance from the start surprised me because it really is one of Gaga's best songs. The fact that it's Top 10 on radio and Top 30 on iTunes (combined). Like wtf.
It didn't be her inability to take critique lead to it not smashing as hard as it should've. The single was released almost 4 months ago and still no video I mean And I think the bolded is why ARTPOP as a whole isn't doing so well either.
It deserved to smash as it's the best single on Artpop, but I think there's been some unfortunate timing that's contributed to its underperformance. There's the recent Gaga backlash in the media + the R Kelly issue that became resurfaced as a result of the Village Voice piece. To be honest, I can't listen to the R Kelly version now that I know the extent of the details of his past. I always knew his past was shady, but after reading the actual specific details in the VV article, that really turned me off.
Had she released the song with X or even solo by herself, I think it could have done a lot better. We would have gotten a music video by now, and it would have counted towards its Hot 100 position.
