Only certain popstars are viewed that way though. Beyonce, Rihanna, and Adele are respected by the GP and the industry.

They're viewed like that because of the generic music some of them make, their stage presence isn't good or they really sometimes aren't that talented.
Because pop music is made to sell to a wide audience. People assume because of the easy tempos and time signatures, chord progressions, and overall repetitive nature that they just don't have talent. Some are credited as good singers but since they sing pop, they don't have any other talent.
In short, blame the stigma that surrounds the genre.
Britney Spears. She brought lip synching into mainstream and also forefronted the worst trend in pop music of all time and also had no talent, and since she was so huge, made people believe that all pop stars are like that and only get deals by giving blow jobs. She's made it so hard for female pop singers because there's such a stigma now.
