-this is the third trial for Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito - first 2009 - conviction 26 and 25 years for them; second 2011 - convictions overturned, declared innocent, released from prison
- Italy's Highest Court overturned the acquittals saying they were "illogical" and ordered a new trial;
- this is an appeal trial, not a retrial, started on September 30 th in Florence; verdict date is set for January 30th 2014; the judge made several comments that legal experts are considering as signs of prejudice and that most probably both will end up convicted again; th prosecution wants them locked up for life
- if Knox and Sollecito are convicted, they will appeal to the Highest Court - confirmed by them
- if convicted - Highest Court must uphold the verdict to be able to consider if they will ask for Knox's extradition, only after the Highest Court's ruling (most probably late 2014 or early 2015) confirming guilt - Knox will start fighting eventual extradition
- USA and Italy have an extradition treaty, but legal commentators are saying it's unlikely USA will agree to send Knox back to Italy
For those who don't like to read. Amanda Knox is being retrialed for her alleged involvement with the murder of Meredith Kertcher. Should she be convicted (a verdict expected on the 30th of this month) then she may have to be extradited to Italy.
The first conviction was overturned and because of that many of her supporters believe that even if she is convicted she may not be extradited because of double jeapordy (in America). Opponents say that it only applies to American laws so she still may be held accountable.
I've been following this case since 2008 and it's been a mess back then, but now it has to be considered as the most ridiculous murder case ever. Meredith Kercher was killed by a burglar named Rudy Guede, who entered their house via a window and when confronted, killed Meredith. The same night he was seen in a disco, two days later he fled to Germany.
Knox was the one who, with her boyfriend of one week, called the police when found out that there was a break in.
I'll be doing some updates soon. The next court date is 20th of January - closing for the defense and then verdict 30th of January.
Naah, you can't kill someone with two other people(as charged) in a violent struggle and not leave a single trace of you, when other, already convicted person, left his DNA on and inside the victims body. It's just impossible.
I have followed this case hardcore over the last two years or so and lemme just say:
I STAN for this bitch.
Everything that she's been through, how strong she's had to be, how evil the Italian and British media/police were to her...
This case is ridiculous and insane. The only reason she's getting retried is because the Italian judicial system looks stupid as hell for what's happened thus far. They think a conviction will validate them, but they're dead wrong.
Hope she can put this behind her for good soon. It's so unfair.

I have never met Amanda Knox stan, but if you're one, than I'm one too. She's been truly through alot and it's still not over.
And yes, Meredith's family is going through hell as well.
As for conviction/extradition - there are legal ways to avoid it, even with treaty, especially when one considers the fact that extradition is not only a legal issue, but also an ethic one. She may end up being saved from extradition and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it.
I truly don't get this case. If there is really nothing tying her to the murder, how in hell is she getting convicted? I need a non-biased website that present both sides. Googling, but can't find anything that seems reliable yet.
Did you try http://www.injusticeinperugia.org/ ? These people are not connected to Amanda Knox or Raffaele Sollecito or at least, they weren't when they started the site. I know they've met after they were freed. It is a great site with lots and lots of information - original court documents, videos, pictures from the crime scene - graphic content there - watch out.
If you have any questions, ask me. I'm having no problems with facing the most difficult questions about the case, such as Amanda incriminating an innocent man.
And i think they will re-convict her. The mood of the current trial has been awful. The developments were good for Knox and Sollecito - they tested again the kitchen knife that Knox used to cooking and they found no DNA of the victim, only Knox's DNA and then they re-heard a witness who said that Rudy Guede(convicted for the murder)confessed to him that both Knox and Sollecito had nothing to do with it. Still, the mood, as I've said, is bad.
Okay! I was going to google these because they come from a Amanda-is-guilty video but maybe you can answer them more quickly:
1) Did the police really find a mix of Amanda and Meredith's blood?
2) Did Amanda really say she was at the house where the murder occured and that she heard screaming?
3) Someone saw Amanda buying bleach the day after?
4) Did Raffeal say that Meredith was at his home once and accidently cut herself when that never happened?
5) Did Raffeal say that Amanda leave his home between 9pm - 1am and essentially messed up her alibi?
6) Why did they turn off their cell phones? For the first time ever that night?
7) Why was she acting so weird and unaffected at the police station and afterwards? (Cartwheels etc, buying lingerie, talking about having hot sex)
Good questions, although, very often repeated by people beliving in their guilt. Let' see:
1.The police found 2 drops of Amanda's blood in the bathroom she shared with Meredith, the blood could not be dated and was not mixed with anyone's DNA or blood. They also found Amanda's DNA and Meredith's blood mixed in five spots of the flat - 4 in their bathroom, 1 in a room where the break in occured. Is this incriminating? My DNA is in my bathroom, that's all I know.
2.Yes, Amanda really said that. It was on the night of Nov 5th, four days after the murder. She was questioned everyday since the discovery, just like many others, but she was the only one, along with Raffaele, that didn't have a lawyer present. That night Amanda came into the police station even though she wasn't called in, Raffaele was, but she said she didn't want to be alone.
The interrogation started before midnight, after 1she was confronted with the news that Raffaele did not corraborate her alibi anymore and that he said she went out and he stayed home on the night of the murder, which was obviously a lie. Police wanted to see what would be her reaction. She asked for a lawyer and they refused, she didn't have a real translator, she was alone with 8 police officers, she was hit in the back of the head - all according to her version, of course. She said police wrote the statement and told her to sign it, then she'll get something to eat and drink. She signed that. She was arrested right after that and the next morning, wrote a statement that she does not agree with what she signed.
Worth mentioning is the fact that the interrogation wasn't recorded - that's what the prosecution says - even though, it should've been.
3.The store owner claimed he saw Amanda standing infront of his store at 7 am waiting for him to open the store. Then, according to him, she went in and headed to the cleaning supplies. He wasn't sure what she bought. The problem is, there were cameras in the shop and not one of them recorded Amanda Knox that morning and not one of his co workers have seen Amanda either. What's more interesting, he was asked by the police if he saw anyone just the next day after the murder. Then he said, he didn't. He came back year after the murder and testified under oath something different.
4.Yes, he did say that. Yet another thing people do, when cornered by the police. They told him, they have evidence that his kitchen knife was the murder weapon and asked him how he can explain Meredith's DNA on on the blade. He came up with this idiotic story. One of the reasons why they were arrested in the first place.
5.Yes, explained in second point.
6. They tunred off their phones - Amanda third time for the past 7 weeks, Raffaele second for 9 weeks. That's really unusual for them. Both had explanations - Knox received an SMS from her boss (whom he later accused of murder) that she didn't have to go to work that night (in his pub). She claimed that she did not wanted him to change his mind, so she turned off her phone. Raffaele did it also, beacuse, suddenly, they had this evening only for them.
7. Amanda did a split, there was no carthweel at all. It made headlines, though. She said later, that she did a split, while waiting for the questioning. She did yoga for years, she wanted to relax - that's her explanation. She bought lingerie, beacuse her house was declared a crime scene - she had no access to it anymore. She couldn't take anything out of it, doesn't matter lingerie or documents, nothing. She had to buy clothes and lingerie and she did, and yes, they spoke about having sex.
The thing is, none of this proves they were involved. This is smoke and mirrors.
At the time of the murder, she was studying and working and had $4K in her bank account. Raffaele was a son of a famous italian doctor. Meredith's money went missing - Amanda and Raff didnt need the money.
Rudy Guede was a small time criminal, no job, rent due the day of the murder(!). His DNA was found on Meredith's purse, on her body, in her body, his shoeprints in her blood, his fingerprint on the pillow under her body. And they're still fixated on Amanda and Raffaele.
The differences in the way that this is reported in the UK and US is so intriguing. Over here, there's no doubt that she did it. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that supports her. I always find, well assume, that the news is such neutral territory, and cases like these are real eye openers.
I think it's best to read court documents that are translated from Italian to English, if anyone is interested. The UK and Italian press were huge part of the first conviction. Everyone hated Amanda Knox, the witch.
When it became clear during an appeal back in 2011 that they had nothing to do with it, the press started to write more objective stuff, both in the UK and Italy. Now it's almost back to square one, sadly.
I saw the lifetime movie on it and some of the real footage and I think shes definitely innocent, but I'm also from the US so idk if that has anything to do with it. Italy is wasting time and money focusing on this when I'm sure there are more pressing matters in the country.

A witch hunt is truly what it was. The British press is truly the worst in the world. They latched onto Meredith (who is British) and painted her as a saint (not saying she's a bad person) and painted Amanda (the American) as a drug-addled ****ty demonic woman who was into satanic rituals and crazy sex.
Meanwhile the Italian courts and police, I could rant about for hours, but yeah, she was treated terribly (and illegally) in jail, given no lawyer, no food, experienced abuse, and NONE of it was recorded. And the prosecutor was in it for "the case of his career."
Then when Rudy's involvement was discovered, the press and Italian courts had spent so much time and money in order to get a conviction for Amanda that they couldn't just accept the truth that she was innocent. Instead, they made her into an accomplice of Rudy's.
The people who still think that Amanda is guilty are the uneducated simpletons who saw her doing the splits and not crying over Meredith, a girl she knew for only a few weeks. Just because someone doesn't show remorse doesn't mean that they are guilty. When you look into the FACTS of the case, it's incredibly clear that she's innocent. The DNA and Rudy's confession should be the end of it.
As for extradition, I don't think it'll happen even if (when) Italy's courts find her guilty. The US is a far more powerful than (bankrupt) Italy, they don't need to cede to such idiotic and unconstitutional demands. What's Italy gonna do, come get her themselves? Please. PLUS, it violates the American "double jeopardy rule", which states that someone can't be tried for the same crime twice without new evidence, which is exactly what is happening to Amanda. No treaty, especially not one with Italy of all countries, trumps the American constitution.
Aaaah, the Lifetime movie. Amanda Knox's family sued the movie producers, so did Meredith Kercher's family. The case will start in 2015.
Also, Knox have a defamation trial coming up, for testifying that she was hit by the police - she can get up to 8 years for that. Her both parents are also facing trial in 2015 for repeating this claim in the UK tv show, they can get up to 3 years.
And to add something more ridiculous - Italy was the first country ever to convict seismologists for not predicting an earthquake. They were sentenced to 6 years in prison. So, yeah, they will convict Amanda Knox, obviously.
