I don't understand how people make fun of mental illness and label a person with it as crazy. I made this thread in response to the interview that britney had recently where the interviewers ON AIR ridiculed her medications and her "voices in her head".
So the question is, why is mental illness seen as as such a joke? In my opinion, it is just as much of an illness as a physical one, and making fun of an individual with a mental illness is no better than making fun of someone with a physical illness.
It just shows that those people are disgusting humans and are insecure with themselves Many people on this site who make fun of it and think its funny just come off as arrogant and delusional.

I think it's really hurtful when people make comments like that, having suffered from depression and anxiety for years. It hurts even more when you try to explain your issue to someone and they laugh it off, or dismiss it just because they don't understand it, continuing the cycle. A mental illness is just a serious as a physical one, and just because you can't necessarily see it or put a cast on it doesn't make it any less real.

That's basically it. I went through a rough 2 years in my life because of a major family problem I had with my sister. I was a totally different person, I became depressed and unbelievably unhappy. I'm much better now but I still suffer from major anxiety and people disregard it. But for those like britney who have had it ROUGH and were in the spotlight while it happened I couldn't imagine the feeling of having everyone watching you. I'm just so disappointed in people
I think it's sad, because most of those people wouldn't tolerate any form of discrimination or mockery against other things. But some people only care about things that affect them I guess...

The fact that there is still a stigma against people with mental illness is disgusting.
Coming from someone with bipolar disorder.. ugh. Ugh. Those people should watch Silver Linings Playbook. We are all just a little bit crazy - some more than others - and they should embrace every aspect of what makes someone unique and help them if it is troubling them. Mockery is pure evil.
I've seen a certain fanbase always complaining about racism but are always so nasty to Britney and make fun of her "mental illness"
I think they're nasty and crazy. They think of mental illness as a joke when is clearly not and I know people who suffer or have some kind of mental illness
#1 this is not a thread to start a Stan war
#2 the use of that phrase is not what I'm talking about. People say it without actually meaning it in a negative way. I'm talking about the ridiculing of people with a mental illness.
It's sad when everything becomes a war between pop stars with some people
I've only seen this happen in discussions about Britney. I think metal illness in her case is mocked purely for the fact to hold something against her - all artists on this site have had things held against them, whether it's skin colour, weight, physical or mental health, attractiveness or sexuality. None of it is really serious, it's just a way to find something to drag. (Also I think it's because Britney's never been officially diagnosed with any mental illness)
"I consider it part of my life's work and music to push the boundaries of love and acceptance. My apologies for not speaking thoughtfully. To anyone that was hurt, please know that it was furiously unintentional. An honest mistake, requires honesty to make. "Whether life's disabilities, left you outcast bullied or teased, rejoice and love yourself today." — Lady Gaga
It was only yesterday that Madonna herself used the word n*****. I'll hold it against her and call her a racist, shall I?
I myself have clinical depression and anxiety. I've been hospitalized twice for it. And people still continue to make fun of me for it or say I have to "toughen up"
Ignorance. The history of mental illness, and the negative connotations that come with it, have resulted in a society which is only just coming to accept such conditions as being medical issues. You wouldn't ridicule someone for having cancer, so why do it if they have a mental breakdown? I guess people see the idea of 'going crazy' as being somewhat humorous, in part because of the randomness of the things one may do when in such a state. I could never do it. Mental illnesses have impacted on my life massively, and I know they are just as serious as physical conditions.
I know someone who has mental illness in my campus. Many ppl made him as joke.
I remembered when i joined in a camp. He was there too.
My friend told this story to me. Some guys asked him to get into forest in night. He did it. And he was lost. Fortunately he was found, 15 mins later, because he didnt go too far
And that semester, he stopped his study
