the act was just an act of violence, not an instance of oppression.
and the court case was not exactly plessy vs ferguson or Brown vs Board of education. It was based solely on the murder and whether it was in self defense, and even people who supported Trayvon's side (like I did) would agree that the defense put up a far more compelling case in terms of evidence and negating key witnesses from the prosecution.
it's just less visible since its universal and people think it's ok.
