It's almost astounding how Katy managed to build a successful career off of this. A song like this has 'one-hit wonder' written straight across it. There's no rebounding. It's even more astounding knowing that she's churned out even bigger radio hits with just as striking hooks in time passed.

Yup, still, i can see many people thinking Rue just has serious tanned skin from working on the farm. I don't see why they would bitch about her being black though.

District 11 is said, from the author herself, to be in the south near Atlanta, so it's not far fetched that Rue turned out to be black either - certainly not enough to warrant those disgusting comments.
