"My 'brother', the '******'" a powerful Greek article
A very powerful article, about gay rights was posted today from a very popular Greek blogger, talking about how he lost his best gay friend, cause of homophobia and deprivation of basic human rights. Written by George Hatzopoulos.Translated by me. Get your tissues out.

And you meet by accident. And you think 'somethin's wrong with him, he's different'. However you have a great time hanging out with him. You enjoy every word he speaks, he's clever, devil's work. But he is hiding something, you know what that is. Under swarms of genius talking and sharp lines, you begin to spot the differences. You know he is not one of 'us'. He is one of the 'others', come on you know what I'm talking about.
But you are not afraid, one day he just tells you. And he stands there, calm, waiting for a 'yes' or a 'no', waiting to tell him that nothing has changed. And nothing has changed, yet everything has. And it's weird, cause now he is one of the 'others'. And one day as we're walking, you hear some people talking about 'sissies' and '******s'. And blood rushed to your eyes, and you wanna scream, remind them of his rights, but you see him untouched. And that is when your 'brother' is born. And you think "I'll always be there for him"
"[.....] And he is simply not being accepted. And all you see is tears and strength and you want to protect and cherish him, but he won't let you. We joke about it, he calls me 'gay', I call him 'straight' and suddenly those two words get numb, as if you've slept on them, you don't feel them anymore.
And he is always there, helping you with a smile, arming you with courage. And you want to help back, in various ways. And you're so happy to have such a human being around you, one that has so harmonically brigded two worlds, two ideas that are in a constant war, without cause.
[...] And one day he says "I am leaving man" And you begin to understand why. He can't live in a place where he is deprived of his freedom, in a place where he can't hold hands with his loved one. Something so ordinary, so simple, so silly is what exostracizes my brother. And you realize that something so blatant to us eveyday people is an anomally for him. The simplest touch, the softest kiss is not normal for us straight people. [...] And I want to get mad, and react, but again you see that desperate confidence reflecting on his eyes.
And war wages out there and for the first time you start seeing all the 'dead bodies' out there, around you. You can see it in everyday acts, the hugs left unfinished, the barriers put there to avoid misunderstandings and the breach of 'balance'. Then again, you recall his smile, you are reminded of his 'burden'. And you are trying to find the words to say, the ways to act. But don't know what or how. All you know is that you owh him. Some blood, some soul and a place next to you

Sorry for the strong language in the title, but I guess that's the way it should be.

From experience, I swear, there is nothing more intense & no friendship more meaningful or as powerful as that between a gay guy & his straight friend that doesn't care or judge, even defends - Especially through schooling life.
And to the perverted minds on here, no. It's not about "wanting the straight D" - Most of the time, these friends are the only truly reliable male figures and influences in our lives. At least for me they were.
