I don't think she was going for uncontrollable raw vocals then though, I think she just lost her voice and she was doing whatever she could to make sounds which would only make it worse

Something like her cover of Ain't No Way I think is a better balance of letting herself go without completely abandoning her musical foundation and killing her voice.

I just love how natural she did look in Because Of You music video. Someone should gift her some lighter lipstick.

I don't think that was her trying uncontrollable raw vocals, I think that was just her with her voice completely shot I think it took her a while to learn how to keep her voice healthy. I never really understood why she was still going for all of the high notes and belts when her voice was in that kinda shape…..same with how she sounded a LOT in the 2nd half of 2005 and 2006. I love when she wails, but not when its how she sounded at the VMAs or a lot of the Hazel Eyes tour shows.

I think a good example of her trying uncontrollable raw vocals is when she sang Piece of My Heart at the Pre-Grammy party in 2009. Or even Run, Run Rudolph.

But yeah as far as 2009 goes, her voice was definitely not in the shape it is now but she still had some great moments. She was just pretty inconsistent. I remember how excited I was when she hit a G5 for the first time in forever in 2009, and now she hits G5s, G#5s, and A5s all the time like they're nothing.



It definitely got better as the year went on, and kept steadily improving over the next couple of years. I think her two vocal peaks in her career are 2004/early 2005, and 2012-now.

is "shout and unsupported", not crystal clear, then saying that her performance of TTWLI on On Air with Ryan Seacrest, is an example of crystal clear G5s (even though she doesn't belt G5s in it, she hits G#5s and A5s)
I love that performance, but its one of her shoutiest. How in the world is that not shouty, but the receipts I'm showing him are?
