There's only been one season on that...? I feel the exact opposite. Asylum was a lot more interesting because they focused on a different time period (like all the different "treatments" for homosexuality that are completely obsolete now). Having it in the present almost feels like cheating because it's a lot easier to involve current things into the story than create a completely different time period.
I've been dying for them to do more on aliens. I know most people didn't like it in Asylum but I loved it and I'm sure if it's the main focus, it could be done way better.
