She doesn't NEED DC money, she had the best-selling gospel album of 2002 - which she co-wrote half of, so she gets royalties from that. She also co-wrote half of her second album.

Plus, she's been doing theatre in between albums

Her 2 albums with DC sold like 20 million copies and had 2 successful tours. I'm sure she didn't spend it all in 10 years.
Her solo albums have sold like 350,000 copies in the US.
DC still have strong catalogue sales, especially during the last year due to the superbowl and love songs
She's done many plays that lasted for weeks: Feta, The color purple, Chicago!
