It's a well known fact that teenage girls drive the success of male teen idols and boy bands. However, it doesn't work the other way around. You don't see hordes of teenage boys following Fifth Harmony around everywhere, now do you? Why is that?

I don't listen to Fifth Harmony, 1D, Little Mix and I'm a guy. I don't know why, we just don't think our kind should listen to that music.

Right? It's considered "gay" for guys to be stanning for females.

Gay boys do but there's obviously not as many gay boys in the world as straight females so it doesn't have as big as an effect. Straight guys rarely care about female singers for the music, they just like whoever they think is hot and they're not going to buy an entire album just because they think a girl is hot.

I'd imagine the gay boys stanning harder over the male idols than the female ones. After all, they are attracted to males.

Even in general my statement stands. it's still a known fact that 70% of the little monsters are gay guys for example.

It doesn't work that way and actually gay boys are like straight boys in that aspect. They might find a guy hot, but that doesn't mean they'll buy that guy's album. And gay guys tend to relate more to females then males, especially straight males, so they're more likely to stan for a female. I mean just look at this site.

Because women are taught in our society to be subordinate to men, while men are taught to only aspire to be like other men. Feminine traits aren't seen as something you want. I don't want to go on a rampage about sexism right now, but that's what it is, it's misogyny

They do for Rihanna.

Majority of straight guys could use a naked Rihanna picture as their Facebook cover photo or Twitter background, but they sure as hell aren't going to go out to buy a Rihanna album on the first day it comes out. They'll bop to a song here and there on the hip-hop radio stations but they won't know even a few of the song names.

If you think about it, the only solo artist that straight guys usually like is Eminem. They usually listen to Rap or they listen to bands.

That's pretty much a gender-swapped version of the male teen idol concept. Bieber/1D/etc. sell their music because their fans think they are hot, not because they appreciate the music.

Look at Taylor, for example. She doesn't sell based on her looks as much as she does her music. It's pretty much clean music about puppy love and relationships that people can relate to.
