I just happened to come onto this thread and its quite surprising the kind of atmosphere that is evident here..I knew this thread was gonna be cheesy as hell but i wasn't expecting it to be THIS tacky and inappropriate. Its very AMUSING how some of you think you know how the music business works and so on...There's a lot of confirmation from some of you of pieces of music that haven't even been released or even sampled to the public eye. This whole diva showoff some of you are getting off on is just a bit too cartoonish and childish too. Its okay to pit your favorite artists against each other.

But please for the love of God, DO RESPECT THEM AS WELL BECAUSE NO ONE CAN TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY WHEN YOU ACTUALLY ATTEMPT TO DISRESPECT ICONS!!..

Mariah, Janet and Madonna are ALL icons in their own separate league. They have all etched their fingerprints individually in the music industry in ways unique to their achievements and disappointments.

Its very important that when you attempt to give your take on 'a fantasized diva battle' like this, you should REALLY avoid coming off as either A STUPID 13 year old girl or AN EXTREMELY GIRLY and WRONGLY SAUCY 13-20year old guy because coming into these thread and reading these comments is quite hilarious.

NO ONE is gonna take these comments that have flooded this thread seriously because the fact is that 95% of them are so disrespectful that people can not even take the posters seriously or even better RESPECT them at all..Basically what you give is what YOU GET..I could be Janet and coming into this thread, i will be laughing my ass off..A lot of you try to be hurtful but just end up looking really really ridiculous..

You dont lose being a legend. It's goes on and on as you live. Go up to anybody, and say the name "Janet", they KNOW your talking about Janet Jackson. Play any single by her, they KNOW it's Janet Jackson. Being a legend isnt about sales, it's about fame, it's about name, and it's about image.

This is true, with a few bumps. But what can be lost is your credibility as an artist. People will say the former pop icon Janet or aka has-been. Due to these last 2 albums, and what seems to be coming up to 3, she has lost her status. To me if you say "Janet" people say "Superbowl 2004", a song by her, as of the last 4 years, they would say I've never heard that, or any song before the flops began they'll mention how she's clearly nothing in the industry anymore. Its not true at all that being a legend isn't about sales, cause without all her album sales success pre-2004 she would be nothing. No one would know her. You can't just pop up and become famous out of nowhere, cause otherwise you're only comparing her to Paris Hilton.

nuroad I feel really bad for you because you seem like a very nice person and I hate when arguments here get turned into personal attacks. I know how it is when somebody starts bashing an artist that I like, it's almost like somebody is attacking a friend or family member. I'm sorry though I can't really agree with your statement that most of us here at ATRL hate the Jacksons...I think almost nobody here hates Michael and the rest of the Jacksons are, to be honest, irrelevant.

Janet frustrates me and many others because her music is sounding fatigued and forced. I'll be the first to admit that I think half of the stuff Mariah and Madonna do is overrated but at least those two ladies are WORKING for their accolades. Janet is only getting back as much as she puts in, which isn't much. I can't even detect a hint of urgency in her voice. It doesn't matter whether she's a legend or not, she needs to work to get people interested. She can't just count on us to buy her albums every time they come out because that's a really lazy approach. Discipline has a few decent tracks, but Janet doesn't really do any justice to them.

While her albums certainly do need to be changed, it's not that the professionals "can't make her a success." It's just that she needs to start writing her own music again. And it needs to be really personal. She says every album she makes is personal, but that just doesn't translate to anything after 2004, unless her life is a series of club-hopping, love-making, never-ending blissful fantasies. Which it very well could be.

Anyway, I changed my mind. I don't want another Rhythm Nation from her. I want another Velvet Rope. She needs to reach down, deep inside, and find that anger--that drive--that lead her to the album. She doesn't need to go through depression, but she just needs to think about the problems with people in the world and blast all of them, piece by piece, in the next album.

Sadly, we all know that isn't going to happen. I really wish I wasn't living in a time when I don't expect any innovation from her. Her music is catchy, and I still really like Discipline, but she never would've made it as an artist if she was putting music like this out all along.

I am just a fan of good music..If a track that is done by either artists appears to be of a high caliber, i acknowledge it and if it falls into the other case, i rightly and respectfully critique it too in the same vein.
