I'm comparing these artists by looking at the directions they went from their first to third albums. Like Cyndi, Gaga is multi talented and will still hold a successful career in making music (like Jazz) and possibly acting

Way off target with analogies yet again. Neither Gaga or Katy's careers are even a little bit similar to Cyndi Lauper. And Katy is certainly not like Madonna. Madonna was all about maintaining autonomy - yes - but she also remained an act who gave off an impression that she did whatever she wanted. She did not seem like she was being told what to release and what to sing in her songs. Katy's career is more directed by her management in a very detailed way. Hence why I think a fairer comparison would be Mariah Carey and not Madonna. Tbh Gaga doesn't have a career that's really at all like Madonna, Cyndi or Mariah but if I had to pick one I'd say she's more similar to Madonna.

The only reason Madonna is so popular is because she bit off Cyndi Lauper's style heavily. Cyndi even knew it, and did certain stuff just to see if Madonna would copy. Cyndi Lauper should be in Madonna's position tbh.

Cyndi was just too creative I guess

Madonna abandoned that 80's look in the 80's sweetie, after that she dyed her hair back to brown and released like a prayer (which is nothing like Cindy's style) then she did a 180° turn and released "Erotica" again nothing like Cindy.
Then after the backlash from the erotica album, she released Bedtime Stories to soften her image and humanize her to the general public, then BOOOM came "Ray of Light" and she made a huge comeback (again looking and sounding NOTHING like Cindy Lauper
