There are some artists in the music industry who are superb vocalists but don't write their own material such as Celine Dion and then there are some who are not praised as much for their vocal performances but more their songwriting like Avril Lavigne and Taylor Swift.

My question is: Which of these 2 talents do you think it is better to be great at?

When the hell was Avril praised for her songwriting?

And when was Celine a "superb vocalist"?

Please don't just pop in to say "my fave has both though slayyyyyy" because that's not what I'm asking

If the song have horrible lyrics that makes no sense and given to the right artist then some justice will be done

Depends.

For example, Carrie Underwood may not be the strongest song writer but her performances make up for it as she always delivers the power/emotion needed to connect to the GP.

Someone like Taylor Swift or Avril Lavigne, their song writing is impeccable and it doesn't really matter how they sing the song because their lyrics get across either way.

Singing without a doubt, the sound of their voice is why you listen to them.

If you want to be a songwriter, songwriting, if you want to be a vocalist, singing.

But anyway songwriting is more important than being exceptional vocalist.

Well in certain cases it is. Take my fave, Stevie Wonder. He is renown for being a virtuosic songwriter and vocalist. His talents balance each other out.

But the question isn't "what is your fave best at?" it's "which do you personally think is better to be good at?"
