It's not the world's first curved phone. It's the world's first flexible smartphone. The Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy Round were curved as well.

Easier to hold.

Also if it's flexible the glass is more durable and less likely to shatter when dropped.

There is also a "self-healing" coat on it that heals itself from scratches that apparently works pretty well.

I'd prefer these features without the curve though to be honest. I would think it would be awkward to hold and maneuver the screen.

It apparently be bent flat for a limited time. Can't be bent inward.

This will be as important an innovation as black perfume that turns translucent when you spray it, or perhaps as groundbreaking as a four ton helicopter with attached dress-bodice-thing that a person can step into and use to hover backwards or forwards for about 20 feet!
