Interacting with aliens won't involve traditional concepts like us wanting things and them refusing. Aliens are beyond our current understanding and imagination. He's just using aliens to back his views of human society.

This has always been my theory as well. It's a little foolish to assume they would be exactly like us. In fact to even assume that they would be "sentient" in our definition of the word is probably pushing it!

Agree. I don't think they are on earth. They may have visited at one point. Or not. I figure they really have no reason to hide their presence. If they really are among us then they're clearly smarter than us and would have no reason to feel threatened by us and our inferior technology. Thus, no reason to hide.
