It's exaggerated here, but there's some truth to it. Florida has always been the U.S. red-headed step child.
The issue is Florida's politically-corrupt government, education is poorly funded and not valued by citizens very much, it's overrun with illegal immigrants and drug issues, alot of racism, and for whatever reason just seems to attract very low-life people. My family is from Miami, and they left because it's just really backwards.
It's a shame too, because climate and scenery-wise, Florida is beautiful in alot of parts (which fools people into thinking it's a nice place), but overall it's just not a very desirable place for any decent family to try to make a good living.
