Lorde finally debuts on the chart, she has been one of my favorite artists of the year. After listening to The Love Club for a while which I found wasn’t THAT good but Pure Heroine is an awesome debut. I love the whole feel of the album, it just makes me feel so good and it’s just an incredible record to listen to. It shows that not all teenagers make trashy pop music and some of us actually have some creativity in us. One thing that irks me is that what’s next for her? What else can she do? That is something that I definitely think might make or break her career. I want to see her dabble into more rock-influenced music and see how she does.
Also another minimalistic album gets a placement on the chart and this is the highest one. The duo gives us such a pleasant surprise with Woman. Great sleek production with soothing vocals and amazing lyrics. One of my favorite debut albums of the year for sure. It’s just short and sweet. I love albums like this because some records tend to just stretch out for a long time and just get boring where as this album is great if you’re looking for something to listen to while you surf the internet or just wanna listen to something to calm you down.
Gaga released her highly anticipated fourth album (yes I consider TFM as an album but that’s another debate). After a long wait, we finally get this album, but what is worth the wait? Not as much as I hoped it would be. As a monster for quite a while this album didn’t live up to par with what I had expected it to be with Gaga hyping it up. When I first heard the album I was so pumped up and listen to it as much as I could because I was just so damn excited for finally getting a new Gaga album but after the excitement died down, so did the album’s a little bit. But it’s a damn bop! I always listen to this album whenever I need a pick me up and it never fails.
Another recommendation from Anna (nineteen) make the list. Definitely one of the best “art-rock” albums ever made (at least that’s how I would classify it). This year I also discovered this multi-instrumental band which make great music and they present us this year with their best album yet. Reflektor (love the spelling with the K) is a great cohesive record that takes you on an artistic trip. This kinda feels like the rock album Gaga would promise but fails to fulfill it (Love you Gags )But in all honesty it’s a great listen and if you haven’t listen to it please just press play and let it play without pausing it you will be surprised.
MY TRINITY:
Reflektor
Here Comes the Night Time
Afterlife
I was very surprised when I listened to this album. It captures exactly the kind of music I’ve been looking for. A perfect blend between electronic and alternative music. The debut album of CHVRCHES is such a great time. It’s pleasurable, it’s happy, it gets kinda weird at some points but it just makes it better and better. An extremely cohesive record with great sleek clean synth indie-pop production. Whoever does the production in the band deserves a pat on the back. Albums like this are what deserve grammys but since Grammy’s are more of a popularity competition I don’t see it getting the credit that it deserves. But it’s definitely one of my favorites of the year and I will forever be a fan. I definitely can see a huge place for them in the music industry.
