She's Stupid.
She also plays games with her albums.
She keeps pushing her new album down the road. The only difference is that Mariah Carey delays it every time a new single off of the record fails to reach the top of the charts.
She tried it at first in 2012, when the first single off of her new album was called Triumphant (Get’ Em). The song failed to crack the Billboard Hot 100, and was soon forgotten (so much for a triumphant comeback). So the album was delayed to “sometime in 2013”.
In early 2013, she released the song Almost Home, which was the main song in Oz the Great and Powerful. “Almost Home” was supposed to be included in Carey’s new album and be its (new) first single if it had succeeded in the charts. But just like Triumphant, the song failed to enter Billboard Top 100. So they forgot it ever existed, hoping the public would too.
Then Marian Carey decided to enlist the services of Prince-wannabe Miguel, and the two released the song Beautiful. The song (which sounds more like a Miguel song featuring Mariah) had an initial positive response, and it finally put Mariah Carey back on the charts. However, it failed to reach the top 10 after all those past attempts. What did Mariah Carey do?
She announced that her new album will not be out on July 23.
When will it be out? No one knows. I’m sure she will try releasing other songs in the future. And she will keep delaying the full record until a new song cracks the top 10, or the record label says “enough."
It’s interesting how these celebrities (I refuse to call them artists) are more interested in the charts than in the work itself.
Remember how Lady Gaga’s Born This Way had three singles and a forth track (as a promotional track) released before the album came out?
The title track (Born this Way), Judas, Edge of Glory and Hair were all released before the full record hit the market - and that only happened at that time because Interscope finally said: “we can’t delay it anymore.”
No wonder Lady Gaga’s promotional strategies remind us so much of Mariah Carey’s marketing (from when she used to be big): selling singles and albums for a price way below the market, inflated numbers, fake achievements announced on TV shows, failed official singles forgotten - these are not the only things these two women have in common.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they recorded a duet For Mariah's still unreleased new album. That would be another platform for Gaga to use in her delusional self-comparisons to Whitney Houston.
