DWUW wasn't destined to see the light of the day. It was just a promo single that got a little bit of success and everyone at Interscope got excited so they payed dust to thE VENUS.

I think had the lyrics been different than it would have been more convincing. I posted this in SYG, but Gaga doesn't really sing about anything. I think people are paying just a bit more attention to lyrics now more than they were in 2009. The perfect lead probably would have been a mid tempo RnB/Electronica type song with clear cut lyrics (Sexxx Dreams). Applause should not have been her buzz single given that it was posed as her comeback single (Gaga Is Over video).

I wish we had gotten that Kendrick track prior to ARTPOP. She definitely needed music out, but nothing from ARTPOP.

DWUW is the most commercial song on the album. It needed a release.

this! and i think it could've smashed on urban which would've been great for DWUW. Pop would'nt have played it though because it says Bitch every two seconds haha

oh and I agree they should've picked the strongest single for the lead single. even though that's against conventional wisdom, this was her COMEBACK. plus she was up against Katy. DWUW would've faired better imo because from the start it would've posed Gaga with a brand new sound. Applause reminded people that Gags can deliver bops but it was "just another dance gaga song".. nothing NEW to excite them
