I got one for Christmas 2012 and they are worth it for what you can play on them, I've pre-ordered Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remaster for it and hopefully that should get me to play it more, the problem is, would you play it enough to get it?
Yes. Mostly everyone that actually owns one will tell you that it SLAYS, regardless of its lackluster sales. The Vita has some pretty amazing games, and the fact that you can use it anywhere is amazing. It also has voice chat and some of the games have amazing multiplayer options. It's the closest you'll get to having console-quality gaming on a handheld. I definetly recommend it, I've spent too many hours using it.
If you get one, I recommend the games Persona 4, Spelunky, Guacamelee, Terraria and Tearaway. If you're into shooters, definetly get Killzone: Mercenary just because of its multiplayer.
Also, do NOT get the low storage memory card. With PS+ you'll get so many free games that it WILL fill up. Not to mention that many good games are digital only. Get a 32GB+ memory card.
