Nice under-50 Top 100.
There were a few others I liked too but not enough to include above.
Khia, my favorite rapper of all time, was supposed to release her album Love Loc's in November, but it got delayed because she signed a deal with Sony. Promo single "Psychic Eyes" was nonetheless an amazing taste of what's to come.
49. Gianna Nannini - Nostrastoria
Tiziano wrote this song's lyrics, which is the only reason I listened to it. I was instantly addicted to it. Gianna has a great voice.
48. Jonathan Gardner - Young And Beautiful
ATRL member and Michelle Williams stan Jonathan Gardner stunned once again with his incredible cover of Lana Del Rey's "Young And Beautiful". It's much, much better than the original.
47. Pablo Alborán - Éxtasis
Hot jam from the Spanish king of pop.
46. Jonas Brothers - Pom Poms
I was addicted to this for quite some time. Sadly the year they started making great music was also their last year as a band. I guess we can forget about the album.
45. Tarja - Mystique Voyage
It's hard to pick the best song on Colours In The Dark, but this is probably it. So melodic and epic, and she sings in English, Spanish and Finnish on one track.
44. Katy Perry - This Is How We Do
I love dumb, catchy pop songs, and this is a really excellent one.
43. Mylène Farmer - Je Te Dis Tout
Absolutely love this haunting ballad by French legend Mylène Farmer. Her voice is so ethereal.
42. Anouk - The Good Life
I already praised her amazing album Sad Singalong Songs, but half of the songs also have incredible videos. "The Good Life" is not only a gorgeous song, but the video is really heartbreaking.
41. Vampire Weekend - Ya Hey
I wouldn't consider myself a fan of Vampire Weekend, far from it, but this song is so cool. Couldn't get enough of it for weeks.
40. Eros Ramazzotti f/ Nicole Scherzinger - Fino All'Estasi
This uptempo duet between the Italian legend and Nicole Scherzinger was a decent summer hit in Italy. It deserved to smash harder, it's really good.
39. Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball
If there's one image that defines 2013, it's Miley sitting on that wrecking ball.
38. Selena Gomez - Come & Get It
Yes her voice isn't remarkable, but she makes it work. This song is so good and so well produced.
37. Lady Gaga - Artpop
When she performed this at the iTunes Festival it was truly a magical moment. By far her best performance ever. Sadly the studio version wasn't as amazing, but it's still the album's best song.
36. Daniel Adomako - Per Sempre
I randomly encountered this on YouTube, apparently he won Italia's Got Talent. Very unusual voice, but damn this ballad is so addictive.
35. Frankmusik - Chasing Shadows
He's back to being Frankmusik, but whatever moniker he goes by, the music tends to be great. "Chasing Shadows" is probably his best song yet.
34. Britney Spears - Work Bitch
This song is quite polarizing, but I loved it right away. Probably her best lead single since "Gimme More".
33. Selena Gomez - Slow Down
Another incredibly catchy song, I thought I'd quickly grow tired of it, but for some reason it's still as great as ever.
32. Elisa - L'Anima Vola
Elisa came back surprisingly strong with the soaring lead single "L'Anima Vola", which ended up a big hit in Italy and re-established her as one of Italy's leading female artists.
31. SISTAR19 - Gone Not Around Any Longer
I don't really follow the K-Pop scene but I came across this song and I just loved its 90s pop/R&B vibe. Wonderful track.
ATRL member and Michelle Williams stan Jonathan Gardner stunned once again with his incredible cover of Lana Del Rey's "Young And Beautiful". It's much, much better than the original.
Everything about this awesome Japanese girl group is so creative. Few things are more epic than this song and video.
29. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis f/ Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us
I didn't really like Thrift Shop but they won me over with this amazingly catchy song. Ray Dalton is the true star here.
28. Baby K - Sparami
Una Seria was my favorite album of 2013, and lead single "Sparami" is one of its countless jams.
27. Empire Of The Sun - I'll Be Around
This is a fantastic song that just carries you away with its dreamy soundscape.
26. Jovanotti - Tensione Evolutiva
One of the best songs of last year, I was still loving it a lot this year. Unfortunately the follow-up singles weren't that great.
25. Mariah Carey f/ Miguel - #Beautiful
I really loved Mariah's 2013 singles, shame they flopped and didn't lead to a proper era. Better luck in 2014?
24. Jonas Brothers - First Time
Their last ever single was also one of the best boyband singles ever.
23. Crayon Pop - Dancing Queen 2.0
These girls have taken over South Korea. This song is so awesome. Baby pparaba ppappa dancing in the moonlight!
22. Chiara f/ Fiorella Mannoia - Mille Passi
Italian music has definitely stolen my heart, this is another beautiful and mesmerizing duet. I liked that I didn't have to look up a translation to understand it. My Italian is getting better!
21. Serena Ryder - Stompa
Thought this had a good chance to cross over to the mainstream and become a big hit, at least in North America. Unfortunately it didn't happen. It's so catchy!
20. Utada Hikaru - Sakura Nagashi
The queen made a brief return late last year to give us this incredible song, but her hiatus continues with no end in sight.
19. Anouk - Kill
Such a beautiful song, and the video is so chilling.
18. Tegan And Sara - I Was A Fool
When I first heard this midtempo ballad, I was so happy for them. Not only was it an amazing song, but it seemed like an easy global smash. Strangely it never took off, not even in Canada.
17. Future f/ Miley Cyrus & Mr Hudson - Real And True
Future already has his name on many fantastic songs, Rihanna's "Loveeeeeee Song" in particular. But this song with Miley and Mr Hudson is probably his best yet. Incredible hook and production.
16. Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll
"Here's To Never Growing Up" was just okay, but "Rock N Roll" was another level of catchiness. Kinda played it to death though. But it's a fantastic song.
15. Within Temptation f/ Tarja - Paradise (What About Us?)
The most amazing surprise this year was Within Temptation teaming up with Tarja (from my beloved Nightwish) to bring us this epic song. The video is so cool.
14. Janina Gavankar - Waiting For Godot
I keep spreading this song everywhere but no one seems to hear what I hear. I love everything about it, her voice, the lyrics, even the dubstep. But it's okay if she doesn't succeed in music, she's already a successful actress, having recurring roles on True Blood and Arrow.
13. Tiziano Ferro - La Fine
Tiziano has completely usurped my music taste, and with good reason. He is simply the best singer and songwriter who has ever lived. "La Fine" was already in my year-end top 10 in 2012 and 2013, but it was released as a single this year, the 7th and last. The incredibly moving video was a beautiful end to yet another successful era.
12. Alessandra Amoroso - Difendimi Per Sempre
While many of my fellow Tiziano fans pretty much despise the album that he wrote and produced for Alessandra Amoroso, I really loved it. It's a very traditional Tiziano sound. But it's hard to get past her voice if you don't like it.
11. lecca - Parakeets
The honors for top Japanese song go to lecca this year, whose "Parakeets" is an album track from last year's Zoolander. I kept it in heavy rotation throughout the year, cause it's so brilliant and mesmerizing.
29. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis f/ Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us
25. Mariah Carey f/ Miguel - #Beautiful
18. Tegan And Sara - I Was A Fool
16. Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll
Can't Hold Us is a bop. #Beautiful is so calm and sweet.
I Was A Fool is nice. Rock N Roll is probably the best single from AL (album) yet.
Even though Alessandra Amoroso's new album was advertised as having "less screaming", the lead single, written and produced by Tiziano, was pretty much all screaming. I didn't mind though, the song is so epic and addictive.
The best song Rihanna has ever recorded, "Loveeeeeee Song" definitely deserved to be released as a single. I'm really disappointed with how they handled the Unapologetic era, by far her best album.
Gave this a listen when I saw it at #1 in the UK, and wow! Instant addiction. Incredible production and vocals, and catchy as hell. The video is really awesome too. Glad this became a big hit in Europe.
2013 was definitely the year of Belgian singer/rapper/producer Stromae, whose album Racine Carrée has already sold 1.5 million copies. "Papaoutai" ("Dad, where are you") is about growing up without a father. Stromae's father was a Rwandan architect who was killed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
5. Luca Carboni & Tiziano Ferro - Persone Silenziose
Luca Carboni released an album full of duets, remaking his own old songs with guest singers. "Persone Silenziose", originally released in 1989, was one of the songs that inspired Tiziano to start songwriting. The new version took a few days to grow on me, but it's been an obsession ever since. Incredible song.
4. Elisa f/ Tiziano Ferro - E Scopro Cos'è La Felicità
Elisa had written this song's music, but it still lacked lyrics. So she asked Tiziano, and he wrote beautiful lyrics dedicated to Elisa's young daughter. The song is simply incredible, it's so mesmerizing. Tiziano doesn't sing much of it, but when they sing the chorus together at the end, it is nothing less than divine.
Baby K and Tiziano took me back to the 90s with this amazing song. Baby K's rapping along with Tiziano's soulful R&B vocals is a unique dynamic that I can't get enough of. The dated yet fresh production fits "Sei Sola" perfectly. It is already a timeless gem.
The year started with "Killer", Baby K's breakthrough hit, obviously with the help of Tiziano. It is a fairly generic song that sounds like Miley's "Can't Be Tamed" and Rihanna's "SOS", but that didn't stop me from being obsessed with it for months. It's insanely catchy and addictive.
Indeed, Tiziano's "La Differenza Tra Me E Te" tops my year-end chart for the third year in a row. I toyed with the idea of disqualifying it, but that wouldn't be right considering the number of times I played it this year. My points formula put it at #1, so that's where it is.
Obviously my favorite song ever, I still listen to it daily, and it's still as amazing as the first time I heard it. Not sure if it's possible for him to create an even better song, but he will release some new material this year, and I can't wait to enjoy his attempts.
And that concludes 2013! A big thank you if you took the time to glance at my lists.
