of, pertaining to, or being a musical instrument whose sound is not electrically enhanced or modified
The participants had to send in a song that displayed their artist stripped back, and placed at the forefront. A lot of contestants took a creative twist with this challenge, sending in liver performances, snippets, or clips. Please keep in mind that some artists on here are not usually ones to perform 'acoustic', so please have an open mind while judging.
Jake - Katy Perry - "The One That Got Away (Acoustic)"
Quote:
One of the most heart-breaking things I've ever heard. This was recorded weeks after her divorce with Russel Brand was announced. You can truly hear the pain in her voice as she aches for her prior lover. She is truly stripped back, only having a modest guitar and piano background.
Poxy - Madonna - "X-Static Process"
Quote:
She may have live acoustic performances of several songs, including several tracks from the rather stripped down and infamous American Life album where they track is found, but this particular song alone is acoustic enough that the live version does not need to be submitted.
Anyways! American Life showed a vulnerable Madonna once again; in this specific song she sings over a soft strumming guitar, admitting she sometimes feels out of place in life, outside of her own self. "Jesus Christ will you look at me?/Don't know who I'm suppose to be," she ponders aloud. "I'm not myself at all."
American Life dealt with fame and Hollywood from a perspective no many expected Madonna to ever share. She didn't describe tinsel town and celebria as something people should all aspire to be apart of: she cast a different, darker spotlight on it all and in turn created one of her most controversial yet beautifully satisfying records ever. It's one of those songs that shouldn't have much explanation to it: just sit back and enjoy the beauty that is the X-Static Process.
MLD - Miley Cyrus - "We Can't Stop (Live on SNL)"
Quote:
For this round, I am sending in the acoustic version of We Can't Stop, performed on Saturday Night Live. This is the one acoustic song Miley has done that really stood out to me, because she turned an urban house party song into an acoustic campfire/beach feel type of song. When you're listening to it like this, it feels like a completely different song. I love how Miley just gave this song another side to itself. Plus, her vocals sound really good here. Plus, it's nice to see her just sit on stage singing instead of twerking or grinding on some daddy.
♥jONE731♥ - Taylor Swift - "Back to December (Acoustic)"
Quote:
This is the song i choose to represent this round i love this acoustic version of her it's so deep, fragile and with acoustic version of it you can feel more the emotions and the lyrics are perfectly fit in.
Legend E - Kelly Clarkson - "Never Again (iTunes Session)"
Quote:
In my opinion, this acoustic recording of the pop rock song shows her vocals in a way that no other song from this session of from her Smoakstack sessions does. One of her best performances ever in my opinion. The emotion and everything. Just her and the piano making magic together.
Euphorae - Christina Aguilera - "I Am (Stripped)"
Quote:
I Am (Stripped) perfectly displays an acoustic song. That's all. Thanks for the immunity y'all.
I normally put passion into my essays, but I'll let the video I made speak for itself.
Nasiir15 - Nicki Minaj - "Right Thru Me"
Quote:
The song i'm choosing is Right Thru Me. It's one of Nicki's most relaxed songs.
K$Ellie - Ellie Goulding - "Anything Could Happen (iTunes Session)"
Quote:
So I chose this because Ellie did an iTunes session recently and her vocals here are very good
rl231 - OneRepublic - "Life In Color (London Sessions)"
Quote:
This song is great because it's upbeat, fun, and pun intended, colorful. The acoustic version is just as great even though there's less to it
Georges - Rihanna - "Stay (feat. Mikky Ekko)"
Quote:
Stay is Rihanna's second single from Unapologetic, and it's one of her all time best. It's a gorgeous song about the strong emotions of love towards someone and the struggle to live away from that person, despite all of the problems that they might encounter. It's a very stripped piano balad which makes it really simple and delicate. Her vocal delivery is incredible and she can perform this live with emotion and a true connection to her songs.
About the video, its simplicity makes it work; no gimmicks or show, just Rihanna in a bathtub, in her most vulnerable state (something we might not see often)
fiercE - Maroon 5 - "Moves Like Jagger (feat. Christina Aguilera)"
Quote:
technically this was my second choice, I can't find the other one
anyways I chose this song because this is one of my favorite in their album "Hands All Over" enjoy
CrazyCat - P!nk - "Perfect (Live Acoustic)"
Quote:
I just love P!nk's voice, and you can clearly hear it very well in this acosutic version of "F**kin' Perfect" I think it's very nice, her voice gives me shivers, because it's just so good, and strong. She just a fantastic vocalist, and that's a perfect acoustic version of Perfect!
TheSeenScene - Britney Spears - "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman (Live With Piano)"
Quote:
Everyone on ATRL likes to throw around the term 'iconic', but this collaboration is the epitome of iconic. Two pop queens coming together to release an absolute banger of a song, bringing together two different stanbases in the process. Easily the biggest and best collaboration in Britney's discography.
Emyro - Lana Del Rey - "Video Games (Live in Buenas Noches y Buenafuente TV Show)"
Quote:
I picked this live performance because you can notice the difference between her first live TV appearances and this one. She is a lot more comfortable, confident and she was PERFECT in every single moment in this performance. She is so relaxed. You can’t see her nervous or awkward. You can actually feel the emotions of the songs pretty easily because of her attitude and presence.
Mr. Loco - Eminem - "Rap God (Live at the Youtube Music Awards)"
Quote:
Eminem doesn't really need autotune or any modification for his songs to smash, and in this performance he shows us why he is a rap god, slaying all the rhymes without any help needed, who else?
#GENETIQUE - Marina and the Diamonds - "Starstrukk (Live at BBC Radio)"
Quote:
The original, sung by 3Oh!3 and Katy Perry, may seem like a shallow song but it actually has pretty meaningful lyrics. And Marina extracted that out in her live interpretation of the song for BBC Radio. The heavy production taken away and replaced with acoustics, the song sounds like an emotional confession of a girl who does not have a hard time getting love but has troubles giving it back.
Starships - Demi Lovato - "For the Love of a Daughter"
Quote:
It's just Demi's raw vocals and her piano here. This is the studio version of the song, but it's as acoustic as ever, the extremely personal lyrics (it's about her alcoholic and abusive father) forces the intimate feel of just her vocals and the instrument. This song has almost no real production, it's just the music played by Demi and her beautiful, real singing.
