But some part of me doesn't believe Madonna was the sole victim in that relationship. I mean, even her brother said she could give as good as she got.
What happened Madonna was horrific, but I don't think the total vilification of Sean Penn is completely warranted. He was violent and imbalanced, but he was never a thug. They were both smart people in a bad situation towards the end, equally unhappy with what was happening. It certainly doesn't seem like Sean derived any pleasure from his actions, and Madonna has been able to forgive him.

Madonna is manipulative and feisty, but she's certainly not abusive so I don't get your point here.
And I take what her brother says with a grain of salt, he's always been jealous of her.
