I Kissed A Girl / Just Dance didnt have any impact when they were released. It took a several months for them to reach their full potential, because they were debut singles of a new artists. The same thing happened with Royals. It started doing well in August.
We all know P!nk's singles are NEVER huge in the first few weeks. The song was NEVER performed unlike Roar (VMAs - 2 weeks after it debuted). So it even more fascinating!
But I Kissed a Girl shot to number one on its 7th week, while Royals reached the summit on its 13th week and Just Dance on its 22nd week. IKAG relatively had earlier impact than the two.
Royals had spent 32 days in the Top 50 before Roar was released.
I'm just saying, it had sales before it made an impact.
Debut single of a 16 year-old girl from across the world outselling an already established superstar, current #1 artist in the world is something fascinating.
Why does this even matter? Both were obvious smashes and will most likely finish around the same number 5-6 million
Both are great songs by great artists. Why does everything have to be a competition? It's nothing to drag Katy for if Royals has now outsold roar by a few thousand copies
