You can import that whole vid then skip to the time you want the gif to start... hold shift while you press play... pause where you want the gif to end then release shift, and it will load those time frames for you.

Edit: I have CS3, not sure if CS5 makes it this easy.

I never bothered to learn how to make gifs but thanks to you and your thread, I finally can.

I have a question for you. Do you know how to make a gif if there are more than 500 frames in a video?
