Even for an inflated amount, that entire thing is just
Janet's grossed around 200-300M in total, but iirc none of her tours crossed 100M in actual gross

I feel like critical acclaim should somehow be taken into account; people like Joni Mitchell, Loretta Lynn, Amy Winehouse, Alison Krauss are getting the short end of the stick here.
Retro, don't forget Norah Jones.

These numbers have always just been a bit too high for me to feel comfortable.
That said, I could believe RN1814 - TVR have each grossed well over $100 million with inflation. You also have to remember not all the dates on each tour have been reported. For example, the RN1814 Tour also went to Hong Kong and a few other stops in Europe that aren't on Wiki. And the janet. Tour went to Brunei, but that's not listed either.

Why should one person in the group take credit for all the work? It's like saying Diana is more successful than Whitney because she has 18 #1s, when Whitney's first two albums alone outsell The Supremes' and Diana's entire catalog.

I didn't say she should take credit for all the work. They didn't even write the songs. I'm just making a list of exceptionally successful female artists. Diana was the lead singer, the face of the group + her solo career was great. That earns her a place before Mary, Florence or Cindy. I'm not saying that Mary doesn't have a share in the Supremes legacy, obviously she does.
And Diana Ross is listed below Whitney on my list. I know #1's aren't everything, I also know single sales mattered more in the 60's becuase album sales were abysmal. And Whitney released her albums in the 80s and 90's, when album sales were booming. So honestly, it's never going to be fair to compare these women. They all started differently.

This could work.
Say Beyonce could get 1/3 credit from DC stats and Diana could get 50% from The Supremes (cause she was pretty much the only vocalist there)

Does Mary J Blige qualify?

I'm here for it, but maybe we should sort them in specific eras. Like 60-70, 80-90, 2000-2010.

And if you're counting "country hits" for Dolly, you should do the same for Shania.

Yes, that's true.

If Missy Eliott is included, I think Aaliyah should be included as well. Her album sales are amazing given that she only got to release 3 albums.
Janis Joplin was pretty successful too, although she had a short career as well. Not sure about her overall sales though.

Maybe a top ten from each decade and no real master list?
Also, 2010-2014 separate already or included in 2000's?

But are you seeing how disconnected your train of thought is? You're saying they didn't even write the songs, and Diana was the lead singer, so she gets the credit for the group. Well, Diana didn't write the songs either. She also wasn't the most vocally gifted in the group either, Mary and Florence were, but yet Diana still gets all the credit?
There's no point in adding in the acts of the 60s and 70s because measuring the success is next to impossible because sales and hits weren't tracked like they were in the latter decades. Just don't include them and start with the 80s chicks.

this list is pretty accurate but IMO critical acclaim should be factored in you can sell a lot of records yet have 0 awards to your name

Maybe you just don't understand what I mean or i'm not explaining myself right. Diana was the lead singer, there's no other reason why I added her Supremes accomplishments other than the fact that she was the lead singer. I'm NOT saying that the other 3 girls can't claim or share that success. I'm saying it's important to list her Supremes accomplishements, because they're a major part of her legacy as an artist or rather performer.
If Mary Wilson had a successful solo career, I would use the exact same stats for her as I did Diana. That brings me to Kelly Rowland. I'm not sure how much she's sold solo, but I would do the same with her.
It doesn't bother me personally, but obviously y'all don't feel the same way, so i'll just let it go. Maybe we should only list their solo accomplishments.
And if we start with the 80's chicks what about Barbra/Cher and Diana?
