Okay, so first off I really miss this game and I am very happy to participate even in one round. Thank you to sumthintoxic82 for giving us previous winners this opportunity.
I always do this when I was a contestant, so I'm doing my mini-review of all songs again. Haha.
Song 1: That's an outstanding vocal right there. I'm a huge fan of Carrie Underwood and this girl sings similar to Carrie, but the song is somehow lackluster (especially the chorus). Still, it's a good song with huge vocals.
Song 2: Cool intro! The production is nice, although it's a little boring. I have nothing much to say about this song, it's average to me.
Song 3: I feel like it should have been a simple song with the grit and rawness of her vocals, but it was forced to be poppish. I can definitely listen to this kind of song at times, but it's not worth the replay button and it's not a song that catches your attention instantly.
Song 4: Is this the same girl as above? Well, this one's terrible. The chorus should be explosive, but it doesn't even carry the song. The verses suck. Her vocals are forced as well.
Song 5: Nice cover. I am not a fan of the vocals or the arrangement (it somehow resembled Kris Allen's version) but for some reason, it sticks to my ears. I guess it's the song itself. This is one safe entry (especially for those who love the song) but it works, kind of.
Song 6: What a strong entry! This really stands out from the first songs above. The acoustic mood, the melody, the guitars, this is excellent. The oohs in the chorus are just captivating. Definitely a standout this round.
Song 7: This is some country gem. The vocals are great, the song is easy to sing along to, and the ambience of this song is perfect for a siesta afternoon session (which is the time I am listening to the songs). This a great track, and it's also a fresh air from the first five songs.
Song 8: I have the soundtrack, and I never really liked this song, but after listening to it again today, it's somehow great. Not on the level of the two songs above this, though. It's just a normal song that sometimes feel great, sometimes it feels terrible.
Song 9: The intro is great, I am already hooked. The chorus somehow ruins the buildup from the intro and the verses, but it's still a sing-along-to song. I love how simple the song is, and the piano/keyboard/whatever-it-is is a very nice flavor to the track.
Song 10: I have his CD, and this is definitely a standout track. All I can say is that he deserves so much more with that crisp and rich voice of his, and this song proves that. Such a great song.
The male songs are clearly better than the female songs.
