People saying they now hate the song are just jumping on the hate bandwagon for the fact that there's any controversy.
It's not disrespectful at all. One interpretation of the song is loving someone on the verge of death, which would make sense with the clip; not wanting to let someone go. It's not like she's mocking the event, or making light of it, or pinning it onto one of her songs about sex like "Partition". She's trying to make the most of it, and at least gives it some moderately good context.
At first glance, yeah, it seems kind of insensitive, but it isn't when you think about it.
Y'all need to think about that more before you're just like "TRAGEDY REFERENCE? MUST BE OFFENSIVE."
Can someone explain to me what tragic event happened because of Beyonce using this in a sample? Insensitive perhaps but not disrespectful - you all need to all the definition of that word. Whether you like it or not, her using it doesn't change anything. It's a song - a bad one at that. Move on
i really don't think much controversy will come from this. They spoke their disinterest and she responded without much press involved besides a few outlets.
XO has lines like kiss me before out time has run out, love me before they turn the lights out and we don't have forever. I think the significance of using that audio clip of the response to what was going on with the shuttle so unexpectedly was to highlight how quickly things can change and we should appreciate our lives and loved ones NOW because our time isn't guaranteed.
I don't think it's tacky how she used the clip considering the context of the song.
Exactly my feelings. The song is about love and death, I thought the connection was obvious.
I'm sure her intention wasn't to be hurtful or anything but I agree that it shouldn't have been used. It's insensitive to the families & everyone involved in the accident. I still enjoy the song but I do believe she should remove this audio sample from the iTunes version at least & change the video.

Exactly my feelings. I don't care that anyone finds it offensive. They are just unhappy people anyway. Always looking for something to criticize.
