Sometimes. Vocals are #1 but it's boring for an artist to just stand there and sing. There is more to putting on a show than JUST singing.
I'm not saying artists should also just stand and sing. As people have said artists are different so of course some will dance. In fact when it comes to pop artists I think dancing contemplate it very well but I think its bad when artists resorts to lip synching. Defeats the purpose of a live performance tbh.

If you're talking about Britney Spears I'll let you know I didn't want any of her live performances from her new show.

A good POP artist needs to sing live (priority) and with the up-tempo songs some choreography. It's no must for me cuz stage presence and good energy are way more important than dancing.. But I'm glad my fave is the total package.
Dance = art. So if you do it well (Michael, Janet, Madonna, Tina, James B, Prince, Janelle, Beyoncé, P!nk etc) and sing live at least 50% of the time. Yay.
It's pretty common, but it's extremely pointless when someone like Britney sacrifices their live vocals only to flop around on stage like a hopeless Magikarp
Well, in a perfect world, pop SINGERS should first sing the song live and than see if their choreography is getting in the way of it or not and decide if they are gonna do the choreo or not.
Now I love Britney, but many like her prefer putting a whole show with theatrics and choreos but sacrifice the live vocals or the good live vocals for that.
But tbh i understand for Britney - it's kind of an exception - coz come on, her music videos (most of them) are all about dancing! And could you imagine her singing Toxic (live) but just standing there or not having a proper choreo? So i give her a pass on the concentration on Dancing!
But like i said, in a perfect world, they should just SING first than think about dancing, because they are not dancers but are supposed to be singers
When someone weights the dance more than the singing, he's not a real singer any more.
Edit: I mean in the case when that person doesn't sing live, like at all. That is like a dancer who dances to a regular track.
This Dancing is part of being a pop star I suppose but you're a pretty bad one if you lip synch to your own track. Pretty much you;re reduced to one of the many back up dancers that are on stage haha
Clearly y'all have never seen Michael Jackson during his peak (1978-1984 and probably until the Bad Tour in 1988). He sang live, hit all the notes and they were difficult songs to sing and yet he never stopped dancing.
I could post similar videos of James Brown, Tina Turner, Prince, Janelle Monae, Beyoncé and even Madonna and Janet. Yep even Madonna.
Dancing is a major part of a being a pop star and you can do both. Y'all just stan for lessors tbh.
It really depends.
If you're good at dancing (Janet, Ciara, Beyonce etc). You should do so and i would probably pay to see it. I would not be expecting GREAT vocals while you were dancing.
If you're a great singer (Adele) I would prefer you to just use your voice.
