Oh, there are plenty of sound arguments against gay marriage!
1. Homosexuality is just unnatural. As a society, we have no tolerance for unnatural things, like plastic, steel and polyester.
2. The purpose of marriage is to produce children. That's why we don't allow old or infertile couples to get married.
3. Gay marriage will lead to all sorts of deviancy being legal. People may want to start marrying their dogs, since dogs can legally give consent and sign marriage contracts.
4. The US was founded on Christian principles, so we must abide by Christian laws. That's why we made it illegal to work on Sunday, mix fabrics or masturbate.
5. The country just wouldn't be able to adapt to the necessary changes, just like we haven't been able to adapt to the advent of the automobile, television, the internet, and longer life spans.
6. Marriage is a sacred institution. God forbid we violate the sanctity of Kim Kardashian's three-month marriage to Kris Humphries.

It depends on your belief system.
(I support it, though.)

A MAN AND A WOMAN CAN MAKE BABIES, SO IT'S NATURAL.
A MAN AND A MAN CANNOT MAKE BABIES, SO IT'S UNNATURAL.
A WOMAN AND A WOMAN CANNOT MAKE BABIES, SO IT'S UNNATURAL.
THEREFORE, GAY AND LESBIAN PEOPLE SHOULD BE TREATED LESS THAN A HUMAN BEING AND SHOULD NOT BE GRANTED THE SAME RIGHTS AS STRAIGHT PEOPLE.
THE ****ING LOGIC OF PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY?
The world would be so much better if everyone on earth has a decent brain.
DOGS DON'T CARE ABOUT HOW THEIR OWNERS LOOK OR WHAT THEY LOVE.
I CANNOT BELIEVE DOGS ARE BETTER THAN MOST OF US PEOPLE.

(not here to argue the legitimacy of any belief system)
Yeah it truly depends on your religious beliefs. If you're a Christian, for example, and you truly love God and care about living in a way that pleases him, then you'll forego certain kinds of sex and romantic relationships for him. If you're not religious and don't believe in God and therefore don't care about pleasing him, then you do what you want and have sex with who you want.
In any event, I don't believe in forcing one's beliefs and ways of life on others. Christians are supposed to encourage other Christians to behave like Christians and try to attract non-Christians to Christianity, but they're not supposed to force Christianity and Christian ways of life upon non-Christians. This is the United States of America, and if one chooses not to practice Christianity and obey the rules of the Christian God, then that is legally their prerogative.

Not really honestly. There's never been an argument I can say I haven't been able to counter.
The fact of the matter is almost everyone who actively argues against gay marriage is religious, and uses religious beliefs to argue against gay marriage. However, intertwining personal religious beliefs with large-scale societal issues such as gay marriage is wrong, and contradicts American values. I have yet to encounter a truly puzzling good response.
I've always wanted to, however. I feel like if you're able to develop a legit gay marriage argument, you have decent understanding and you probably don't have ill-feelings towards homosexuals themselves (which is better than nothing). It's probably an external factor making gay marriage wrong. I doubt I'll encounter this though.

That gay marriage being legalises will intensify hatred for gay community.

I know. What they have to do (in adherence to their faith) is give up sex.

The only counter-argument I can think of is one I came up with myself. But, in the end, it's not enough to go against gay marriage, but just a precaution with allowing it.
There is a possibility that some states may push for church's to have to perform same-sex weddings. Which, I am completely against. I talked to some of my conservative friends and they agree that that is something that they would worry about. And, to me, that's understandable. If a church is against it, they shouldn't be forced to do it. I don't think that'll happen, but it is a precaution with legalizing it that I would keep an eye on.
