Dev Hynes says Will.i.am doesn't care about Britney
Quote:
His year has also included writing songs for Britney, none of which made it on to her album. He was, he says, "actually so stoked about them – something I don't say often. But they'd always come back with why they didn't like it and it wouldn't make any sense. I'd almost prefer them to say: 'We're scared we're not going to make any money so we're just going to use Will.i.am.' It's funny – the people in charge of a lot of these artists … I don't want to say they're not real people, but it's not a fan sensibility. I feel like that's what makes the best music, when people are a fan of the person they're working with."
And he counts himself as a solid Britney fan, "maybe just a bit more than most 27-year-olds – she's such a huge part of our growing up. And I'm just not sure whether Will.i.am or whoever really care about her." I try not to get distracted by an internet vision of a fresh new spat: "Dev Hynes says Will.i.am doesn't care about Britney."
will.i.am can't be as big as a fan as he says with some of the tracks that made the album. Dev and the other multiple people cut during the finalization process those last few weeks of October probably had some really ace tracks, that would've actually sold the album. Versus the idea Will and Larry had that people still cared about trashy EDM (Body Ache).
Great producer/writer/artist. He performs under the name Blood Orange. He produced Solange's new material most notably, Losing You, and Sky Ferreira's Everything Is Embarrassing.
