But it was more of a status-stagnating song than a status-repairing song. There was no way a song like that was ever going to get her back in the public's good graces. It's a dance-pop song, which is automatically written off as cheap, emotionless, and a genre that any hack can pull off. It was catchy, but nothing anthemic or endearing. Instead, it was self-indulgent.
To be fair, though, there was nothing on the album that could have done that job for her anyway. It's all very much a self-indulgent record.
