One Direction’s This Is Us has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart, and in doing so has set a new record for the fastest selling music DVD/Blu-ray title in British history.
Despite only being released last Thursday (December 19), nearly 270,000 copies of This Is Us were purchased in the UK during its first three days on sale, beating the record set by Michael Jackson’s This Is It in 2010 by 10,000 copies.
Produced by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), This Is Us weaves together live concert footage with a fly-on-the-wall documentary and tells the story of Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis' meteoric rise to fame. It was released in cinemas over the summer, and topped both the UK and US‘s box offices. It has grossed an estimated $60m-plus worldwide.
This Is Us is also the first music video title to top the Official Video Chart since Michael Jackson’s This Is It in February 2010. In related news, One Direction’s latest album, Midnight Memories overtook Michael Buble’s To Be Loved to become the biggest selling album released this year 2013.
