yes, soundscan, Music Week, Oricon and of course common sense. haha
no, if you add up the certifications of the single all around the world..you will not get close to 10m. 6 million is already huge and almost double the amount her second biggest single Without You has sold worldwide.
Maybe the 125,000 figure I estimated for all countries outside the UK, USA and Japan seems a bit low to you, but the Scandinavian market for example.. is mostly a streaming market and not a sales market anymore. The German singles chart is a revenue market which ranks songs by the amount of money they make and not by the amount of downloads sold.
South Korea is always tricky because they provide unlimited downloads there for a monthly or weekly fee.. so their chart is very different there as well. Although AIWFCIY almost sold 100,000 copies there this season alone. But it seems like no real chart analyst takes the Korean chart seriously.
Other HUGE christmas markets for Mariah are Japan (although Itunes is not reflected in their weekly chart), Canada, Italy and Australia. AIWFCIY could be multi platinum there - nobody knows because it has not been re-certified in ages. Her album, however, is already 5x platinum and #11 on itunes currently.. Merry Christmas will soon become her 2nd best seller there with 6x platinum (420,000).
