And several of her biggest hits are dance tracks (Don't Stop the Music, Only Girl, We Found Love). Her only #1 during Rated R was the uptempo Rude Boy, and even Umbrella, her signature hit was an upbeat R&B/pop song. I love the UA era and the hints it is giving at her moving in a midtempo/adult contemporary direction, but her biggest hits reflect that the casual fans want dancepop Rihanna back. So it is a bit conflicting.

BUT Unfaithful, Stay, TAB, and Hate That I Love You also performed well and are among her higher selling songs as well. Stay AND Diamonds outsold OG and S&M as well as RB and WMN. I think she can gain casual fans with a different sound it has to be executed properly tho.
I don't think she needs to go on an image overhaul but it wouldn't hurt her to do idk I guess soften her public image as well, and showcase her brand and generate good will with the GP prior to R8.
Madonna had to do the same and went though being a mom and not being so raunchy, as well as vocal training prior to Ray Of Light and it worked for her.
